Summary:
The Associate Head Coach, Women’s Basketball, assists the Head Coach Women’s Basketball with daily office and floor operations, including making appropriate and necessary related decisions. Assists the Head Coach in maintaining the annual budget which includes team travel, recruiting, office expenses, equipment, and uniforms. The Associate Head Coach assumes the responsibility of leading and conducting team activities, practices and meets, if the Head Coach is not present. This position works under general supervision.
Essential Functions:
In collaboration with the Head Coach Women’s Basketball, provides general oversight and direction for day-to-day plans, goals, and activities of the women’s basketball program.
Assists the Head Coach by providing guidance on departmental or University policies and coaching philosophy, and participating in coaching decisions.
Assists the Head Coach and Athletic Director in scheduling of competition by appropriate timelines to allow other administrative needs to be met (events management, athletic trainers, officials, travel, lodging, meals, etc.).
Leads and conducts all team activities, practices and meets if the Head Coach is not present.
Teaches basketball skills and knowledge.
Plans basketball systems.
Conducts individual in-season and out-of season practice sessions, individual skill development, and games and post and pre-season conditioning.
Strives to help students-athletes obtain the best skill and fitness level possible.
Watches tape and prepares the coaching staff as well as the team to compete against their opponents, includes on-court coaching to teach players the plays of their opponents.
Assists the Head Coach in recruiting and hiring qualified applicants; making coaching assignments based upon qualifications; supervising coaching activities; encouraging professional development; and evaluating performance.
Works with the Head Coach in recruiting student-athletes, including: working closely with AU Admissions on the recruitment of all prospective student athletes; targeting recruiting efforts to result in effective signings of student-athlete.
Facilitating the provision of all information necessary to determine prospective student-athlete eligibility.
Reaching minimum roster goals as defined by the Athletic Department and University.
Assesses and manages student-athlete issues, evaluating student-athletes on the basketball floor and in the classroom.
Maintains knowledge of NCAA rules to ensure that the team complies fully with NCAA and AU regulations.
In conjunction with the Assistant Director of Compliance, assists in the preparation and management of compliance paperwork related to official visits, unofficial visits, evaluations, and contracts.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
Full Time.
35 hours per week.
After hours and weekend work frequently required to attend games and related athletic events.

Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree.
5-8 years of relevant experience at the collegiate level.
Knowledge and expertise in coaching sufficient to assume the duties of a head coach in the event of a head coaches’ absence from the program.
Has demonstrated ability to coach, recruit, creating practice plans and game strategies, monitor student’s academic progress and wellbeing, and run the overall day-to-day operations of the program at the same level as a head coach.
Commitment and ability to maintain and exhibit the highest standards of ethical conduct.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to relate well to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Previous experience as a basketball athlete at the collegiate or professional level.
Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
