Position Summary
The Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Communication is a member of the Athletic Department Senior Staff reporting directly to the Director of Athletics. The Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Communication will oversee and administer all aspects and operations of an NCAA Division II Sport Communication office. Responsible for the daily maintenance, design, and operation of the department web site. Distribute news and information regarding UIU Athletics to various media sources and external stakeholders. Manage information and communication via social media platforms. Maintain all required statistical information and report information as necessary to conference office(s), NCAA, and others as required. Oversee home event operations of the working press area and scorer’s table. Prepare game day programs. Represent UIU Athletics at conference and national meetings. Serve as liaison with vendors associated with the sports communication function. Work collaboratively with coaches, staff, and campus members to promote UIU Athletics and its initiatives. Prepare materials for Athletics Hall of Fame committee review.
Position Responsibilities
Responsible for the oversight, management, and administration of an NCAA Division II sport communication operation; reporting to the Director of Athletics and serves as a member of the Senior Staff.
Responsible for the design and daily maintenance of the Athletics web site and web-hosting services to include: game previews and recaps, updated results, photos and biographies, schedules, multimedia platforms, etc.
Responsible for the design and production of game programs, schedule cards/posters, summer sports camp brochures, press releases, media guides, and other promotional pieces.
Distributes news and information regarding UIU Athletics to various media sources and external stakeholders.
Manage information and communication via social media platforms.
Maintain all required statistical information and report information as necessary to conference office(s), NCAA, and others as required.
Coordinate with members of the Senior Staff in the coordination and execution of home athletic events. Oversee home event operations of the working press area and scorer’s table.
Represent UIU Athletics at conference and national meetings and committees.
Serve as liaison with vendors associated with the sports communication function; in addition to the UIU Office of Marketing and Communication.
Work collaboratively with coaches, staff, and campus members to promote UIU Athletics and it’s initiatives.
Prepares and maintains annual budget for area of operation.
Prepare materials for Athletics Hall of Fame committee review.
Coordinate and maintain files of coaches, staff, student-athlete biographies and photos.
Supervise staff of graduate assistant(s) and student worker(s).
Other duties as required and requested.
Core Competencies
Knowledge of NCAA and NSIC, MIAA, GLVC and GLIAC rules and regulations.
Knowledge of statistical information required for NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletics.
Efficiency and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines for a wide variety of assignments.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and to coordinate multiple activities of events.
Ability to work autonomously and demonstrate excellent judgment in decision-making along with establishing priorities and importance of tasks.
Skilled in computer use and software applications, including database, spread sheet, presentation, content management, design and word processing.
Ability and confidence to immediately address and resolve problems and issues is required.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree required. Masters preferred.
Two (2) years experience within a sports information, sports communication, or media environment.
Ability to works nights, weekends, and holidays as needed and assigned.
Communication and computer skills are required.
Working knowledge and understanding of NCAA and affiliated conference(s) rules and regulations.
