Position Overview:
Conduct initial assessments of an athlete's injury or illness to provide emergency or continued care and to determine whether a referral to physicians for definitive diagnosis and treatment is warranted. Evaluate athletes' readiness to play and provide participation clearances when necessary. Apply protective or injury preventive devices, such as tape, bandages, or braces, to body parts, such as ankles, fingers, or wrists. Assess and report the progress of recovering athletes to coaches or physicians. Collaborate with team physicians to develop and implement comprehensive rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries. Care for athletic injuries, using physical therapy equipment, techniques, or medication.
The general schedule for this position is 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; some nights and weekends may be required.
Department Specific Essential Job Functions:
Responsible for the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses sustained by UCO student athletes. Adheres to emergency action plans as stated in the policies and procedures manual during emergency situations at practice or competitions. In-season and off-seasonsport coverage as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer. Responsible for counseling and education regarding injury to UCO student athletes. Assists in oversight of athletic training annual budget including purchasing of supplies and equipment. Assists with implementation of athletic department drug-testing policy.
Assists in coordinating pre-participation physical exams with team physicians and coaches. Create and maintain student athlete files, including primary health insurance and physical form. Assists with coordination of scheduling of medical coverage for home and away competitions. Assists with recruitment of student assistants and graduate assistantsathletic trainers. Assists with monitoring of graduate students performing internships, practicums, etc. Works closely with university compliance staff to ensure student-athlete eligibility. Utilizes electronic injury tracking software to document and track injury/treatment progression of each student athlete.
Works with team physicians, physical therapists, and other allied health professionals to deliver care to student athletes. Sends appropriate information when referring student athletes to a physician or other allied health professional (primary and secondary insurance information and medical service referral). Communicates clearly with student athletes, coaches, administrator, and physicians. Supervises and maintains documentation for the Graduate Athletic Training Education Program students. Oversight of student athletic trainers' kits primarily for student athlete insurance information and appropriate supplies.
Works closely with NCAA Athletic Compliance staff to ensure adherence to all applicable NCAA, Conference and University regulations. Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of and adheres to applicable NCAA, Conference, University, and departmental rules and regulations. Upon notification of any NCAA violation, reports the violation to the NCAA Compliance Office. Also has a responsibility to follow applicable procedures and cooperate fully with any and all investigations of potential violations of NCAA, Conference, University or departmental rules and regulations. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Familiarity with NCAA governing rules. Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, human relations, public relations, and organizational skills. Computer proficiency preferably in Microsoft Office. Ability to work independently, handles multiple tasks simultaneously, and interacts professionally with all segments of the University community. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to make policy and procedure decisions. Must be detail oriented.
