Assists with the athletics media relations activities of the athletics department to enhance and maximize exposure for the institution. This includes, but is not limited to, updating and maintaining the athletics website, creating innovative athletics-related graphics and publications, compiling and updating statistics, assisting with members of the media covering Drury events, and executing Drury’s video streaming of events. May serve as a sport administrator and perform competition management duties for assigned sports. May serve as the Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) if designated by the Vice President and Director of Athletics. Supervise assigned staff. Perform other duties as assigned.

Assist in handling requests from the media for information regarding individuals, teams, and coaches. Coordinate media needs and reporting functions for all events so that material for publication or broadcast is available as desired.
Assist in the creation of graphics, posters, schedule cards, website splash pages, video clips, as well as the photoshoots needed to compile materials. Assist in the creation and updating of various athletics department publications.
Assist in the archiving of all statistical records for the athletics website as well as related publications for each of Drury University’s teams as well as updating team rosters, and biographical information for players, coaches, and athletics department personnel.
Travel when needed to road contests ensuring that Drury is covered in the best manner possible. Write game stories that are not only appropriate for the Drury website and related publications, but also for local newspaper and other news outlets.
Assist and/or create scripts for the public address announcer at Athletics events Drury University hosts, as well as implementing and executing an operational plan for assigned events. Set-up video equipment, create graphics, run and operate Drury’s video internet broadcasts.
Assist in the interviewing, selection and supervision of student employees, interns and graduate assistants working directly in sports communications.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related area is required, a corresponding graduate degree is preferred and at least one year of experience in athletics media relations or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Knowledge of NCAA Division II rules
Knowledge of and ability to execute athletics media relations best practices
Experience in sports journalism to create press releases, media and marketing materials as well as a variety of publications for both print and internet
Ability to assist with radio, television, and internet broadcast productions; anticipate production needs; operate and set-up equipment; and provide pertinent information to on-air broadcast personnel
Ability to manage competitions and special events
Knowledge of and ability to execute web streaming, podcast, radio and television sports productions
Strong public relations, verbal and written communication skills
Ability to operate public address, statistics, website, publishing, video and scoreboard systems
Attention to detail while maintaining an understanding of the big picture
Strong organizational skills resulting in the ability to prioritize workload and meet short-term deadlines on a regular basis
Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with media members, sponsors, students, faculty, staff, donors and the general public
Ability to handle stressful situations in a professional manner
Ability to operate a computer, printer, applicable software and multi-function office machine (copy, scan, fax)

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related area is required, a corresponding graduate degree is preferred and at least one year of experience in athletics media relations or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
