SFU Sports Medicine oversees the health and safety of our NCAA Division II sports, providing on field injury management, return to play decisions and ongoing treatment. As the only Canadian team in the NCAA we are always striving to excel both on and off the field of play. Our multidisciplinary team of Athletic Therapists, Chiropractors, Physiotherapists, Acupuncturist and massage therapists engages to provide an exceptional student athlete experience.
About the Role
The Athletic Therapist is active in the prevention, assessment, and treatment of athletic injuries in the Sports Medicine Clinic and in the varsity sports environment. The incumbent of this position assists in the prevention, assessment and treatment of injuries for SFU varsity athletic teams at home and away; provides medical support for visiting teams; assists in ensuring compliance between clinic policies and NCAA guidelines; participates in the oversight of the student trainer programs. The Athletic Therapist follows protocol to screen and test for serious injuries, such as concussions, and makes decisions regarding an athlete's treatment and readiness to safely return to activity. The incumbent of this position is also responsible for coordinating and reviewing pre-season medicals and ensuring incoming and returning athletes are appropriately cleared for participation.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, Science, or a related field, with certification as Certified Athletic Therapist through the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA) and certification as a Sports First Responder and two years of working experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Additional Information
The assignment end date is 10 months from start date.
The hours of work vary depending on the clinic and varsity game schedule. Typically, a given week can have regular clinic hours between 7:00am to 7:00pm and can also include evening and weekend shifts for game coverage. The incumbent may encounter extended hours through the varsity season as well as weekends and evenings. In addition, the position will be required to travel with varsity teams during the competitive season based on team needs.
