This is a two-level search that is dependent on the candidate's qualifications. Depending on the candidate’s qualifications, this position may be hired as an Assistant Athletic Trainer or an Associate Athletic Trainer.
Athletic Trainer, Assistant/Associate provides sports medicine/athletic training services to the Boise State University Intercollegiate Athletic Program.
Athletic Trainer, Assistant
Entry-level professional with limited or no prior experience to contribute on a project or work team. Incumbent learns to use professional concepts to resolve problems of limited scope and complexity under close supervision while achieving day-to-day objectives. Works on developmental assignments that are initially routine in nature, requiring limited judgment and decision making. This level is typically focused on self-development. Requires theoretical knowledge through specific education and training.

Fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. May provide guidance and assistance to entry level professionals and/or support employees.
Both positions will:
● Provide emergency medical coverage and athletic training services including injury prevention, management, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation strategies for assigned athletic teams for all home and away competitions and practices for designated teams.

Both positions will:
● Provide emergency medical coverage and athletic training services including injury prevention, management, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation strategies for assigned athletic teams for all home and away competitions and practices for designated teams.
● Maintain adequate records concerning athletic injuries, their etiology, treatment, and follow up treatment along with outside referrals as necessary.
● Coordinate physician and medical staff referrals, appointments and surgeries for injured athletes with Idaho Sports Medicine Institute and outside vendors.
● Coordinate claims, payments and coverage of insurance benefits for athletes who have received medical care outside of the university setting medical facilities by working directly with the Athletic Student Insurance Coordinator on all insurance paperwork necessary for athletic injuries.
● Participate in coaches meetings to help provide injury updates.
● Maintain current certification and licensure as required for all staff.
● Act as the primary athletic trainer for the men’s & women’s track and field/cross country program
● Act as the facility inventory and ordering coordinator for the Varsity Center athletic training room.
● Maintain medical equipment, and modalities.
● Fulfill the preceptor role and provide high quality clinical experience and education for the Master of Athletic Training Students.
● May perform other duties as assigned.
Additionally, the Athletic Trainer, Associate will perform all of the above and including:
● Administer coaches meeting injury updates. Supply the coaching staff with an overview of the student-athletes injuries and practice schedules.
● Mentor entry level athletic trainers.
● Some knowledge and understanding of NCAA rules and regulations regarding compliance issues.
● Communication skills and ability to work well with staff, student-athletes, physicians and parents.
● Ability to perform adequate and competent evaluations in regard to health status of student-athletes.
The Athletic Trainer, Assistant must have:
● A Master’s Degree.
● Certification by the NATABOC & must meet standards for State of Idaho Licensure.
● CPR and First Aid certifications (must be completed within one month of hire).
The Athletic Trainer, Associate must have:
● All of the above qualifications.
● An additional two (2) or more years of certified athletic trainer experience.
Athletic Trainer, Assistant
● One (1) or more years of experience working in a Track & Field or Cross Country setting.
● Two (2)or more years of certified athletic trainer experience in a full-time role at the collegiate or professional sport level.
● Strong knowledge of RED-s best practices and one (1) or more years of experience managing cases.
Athletic Trainer, Associate
● Two (2) or more years of experience working in a Track & Field or Cross Country setting.
● Five (5) or more years of certified athletic trainer experience in a full-time role at the collegiate or professional sport level.
● One (1) or more years of experience supervising certified athletic trainers.
● Strong knowledge of RED-s best practices and one (1) or more years of experience managing cases.
● CPR Instructor Certification.
