The Student Health Service of East Carolina University is a separate and distinct department within the Division of Student Life and is charged with the responsibility of providing primary health care for its student body which now exceeds 27,000 persons. The primary care encompasses delivery of acute medical care; preventative medical care; health education; mental health care; laboratory and pharmaceutical services; rehabilitative services through physical therapy; administrative support services; and advisory and educational assistance to other university departments, i.e., Athletics, Intramural Recreation Services, Health Physical Education Recreation and Safety, and other departments of the College of Arts and Sciences. The Student Health Service is mandated by the University of the State of North Carolina to deliver “state of the arts” medical care economically to all fee-paying students through a pre-determined budget. These services are utilized currently at a rate of over 40,000 patient visits annually and are administered by a staff of sixty-five persons through eight different sections within the department. The diverse medical needs of the

Student Body require that the
SHS
be a multifunctional and constantly changing department.
The temporary Athletic Trainer will assist with pre-participation exams for student athletes between 5/2024-8/2024. This position will instrumental in acclimating staff unfamiliar to this process with
EHR
documentation, clinical flow, and procedures.
Specific duties:
Sufficient in use of Medicat
EMR
Gather health history, vitals and other pertinent information of the patients schedule to be seen by sports medicine doctors
Assist in documentation of pre-participation exams
Fit patients for bracing and/or splinting as necessary
Acclimate and train new staff to take on this role more permanently
Assist Medical Director with other duties as needed
Ø Master’s degree in Athletic Training; or Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training and 2 years of experience
Ø Certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association (
NATA
-
BOC
) and a license to practice in the State of North Carolina required.
Ø Certified in
CPR
/
AED
/First Aid or
BLS
Ø Demonstrated experience in understanding and communicating medical terminology with patients, parents, coaches, physicians, and other healthcare professionals
Ø Demonstrated knowledge and experience in risk management planning.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
Certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association (
NATA
-
BOC
) and a license to practice in the State of North Carolina required.
Ø At least two years of professional and administrative experience in Athletic Training
Ø Prior experience in High-Risk Sport Coverage
Ø Certified instructor of
CPR
/
AED
/First Aid
Ø Excellent leadership and decision-making skills
Ø Ability to work independently & confidently with little daily supervision
Ø Demonstrated ability for clear, cogent written and verbal communication
Ø Strong technology and computer skills
License or Certification Required by the Department
