This individual will be responsible for the care, prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries, as well as for recordkeeping, administrative duties, and operation and maintenance of the Sports Medicine Clinic. Serve as a clinical preceptor and supervise graduate Athletic Training Education students. Specific assignments to be determined. Job Description:
RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in the care, prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic related injuries.
Assist in the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the Sports Medicine Clinic. Maintain daily injury records using current clinic EMR.
Team coverage of designated sports including pre-practice prep, home and away contests. Travel required with potential team driving responsibilities.
Athletic department camp coverage as directed by supervisor.
Serve as a clinical preceptor to student athletic trainers in the MS-AT program. Assist in the daily supervision and critical evaluation of athletic training students.
Aid in the process of determining medical clearance of Student-Athletes.
Assist Student-Athletes with health care needs and concerns and make appropriate referrals as needed. Stay in communication with attending physicians regarding prognosis and orders for injured Student-Athletes.
Communicate with team physician(s) and outside medical professionals in the management of athletic injuries/illnesses.
Assist supervisor in maintaining and updating the Sports Medicine Policies and Procedures Manuel. Assist supervisor in writing annual reports.
Attend all Sports Medicine, Athletic Department, and Athletic Training Education meetings.
Work in conjunction with the strength and conditioning coaches and head coaches to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition and conditioning programs customized to meet individual Student-Athlete needs.
Demonstrate knowledge of and compliance with all PacWest Conference and NCAA rules and regulations as they relate to all job-related activities.
Maintain all required certifications.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Understanding of and commitment to the spiritual mission of the university.
Excellent communication skills. Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to patients and other employees of the organization using proper grammar. Effectively communicate with Student-Athletes, coaches, team physicians, and other outside medical professionals.
Ability to exercise good, independent judgement and discretion while making sound decisions in all circumstances. Use of logical problem-solving with the ability to manage serval projects at once.
Ability to work collaboratively with a team.
Ability to adapt to rapidly changing work environment while working under pressure in order to meet deadlines with accuracy and consistency.

Ability to learn procedures and retain information.
Deal with problems involving multiple variables in standardized situations
Ability to handle confidential information according to HIPAA and FERPA regulations.

Requires flexible schedule. Possible early mornings, late afternoons, evenings, and weekend shifts; travel required.
Administrative skills in record keeping, charting, basic computer skills with emphasis in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Google Apps, and Electronic Medical Record keeping systems (EMR), ATS preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS
Masters’ degree in related field
Certification through the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification
First Aid, CPR, AED for the Professional Rescuer Certification (AHA or ARC)
3 years’ experience, collegiate level preferred
Eligible for Athletic Training Preceptor Status
Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement. In addition, staff agree to live in agreement with PLNU’s Community Life Covenant.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Standing and sitting for periods greater than one hour. Push, pull, bend, twist, grasp, reach, and lift up to 75 lbs throughout the day.
Ability to perform the manual tasks associated with manual therapy for both evaluation and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.
Ability to manually assist ambulation of injured athletes.
Use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Requires repetitive motions.
Use of computer equipment: computer keyboard, mouse, and monitor.
Vision to read documents, e-mail and other correspondence, and reports on paper and computer monitor. Visual acuity necessary for evaluations and wound debridement.
Hearing and speaking to communicate effectively with others in person and by phone.
