Athletic Trainer – Ohio University College of Health Sciences and Professions. The Athletic Trainer provides athletic training services to Intercollegiate Athletics patients, specifically Men’s Basketball, under the direction of a physician and reports directly to the Director of Sports Medicine Services. This position coordinates the care for patients within the sports medicine department, including but not limited to performing evaluations, administering treatment and rehabilitation, making referrals to clinicians, and making athletic participation and return to play decisions as appropriate and in accordance with established departmental protocol, including the prevention, assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, physician referral, and required legal medical documentation of all injuries and illnesses associated with assigned student-athletes; communicate complex medical diagnoses and treatment strategies with student-athletes, parents, coaches, staff and physicians within
NATA
and
HIPAA
guidelines; observe all athletic policy and procedures in accordance with
NATA
regulations as well as
NCAA
, Mid-American Conference and Ohio University rules and remain licensed to perform these duties on a daily basis.
Patient Care Responsibilities:
o Provides athletic training services to patients under the direction of a physician
o Creates and maintains a complete medical record
o Evaluates, manages, and rehabilitates acute injuries and medical conditions
o Provides ongoing care, maintenance, and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions as indicated
o Provides emergency management, communication, and medical care through the creation and execution of emergency action plans
o Determines participation status and executes with the unchallengeable authority to return and/or remove a patient to/from participation in coordination with team physicians
o Provides coverage of athletic practices and competitions. Sport coverage as assigned by Director of Sports Medicine Services.
o Coordinates and/or completes components of pre-participation screening and physical examinations
o Communicates appropriate information regarding patient health and participation status across multidisciplinary and high-performance team members, including but not limited to, team physicians, athletic trainers, physical therapists, athletics administration, coaches, and academic support services
o Precepts professional athletic training students as assigned
o Coordinates physician clinical visits, medical testing, and follow up care, including but not limited to, obtaining relevant patient history, obtaining vital signs and

, performing point of care testing, coordinating diagnostic imaging, and fitting durable medical equipment
o Delivers educational materials to various stakeholders, including but not limited to, patients, coaches, and parents
o Ensures patient’s rights by maintaining confidentiality and privacy during care.
o Possess knowledge of and ensures compliance with rules and regulations governing or directing patient care and administrative tasks related to assigned duties and/or patient panel
o Performs other clinical and administrative duties as assigned

Licensed as an athletic trainer in the State of Ohio by the time of employment.
In good standing with the Board of Certification, Inc.
Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training or related field by start date.
At least 1 year of experience by start date.
Master’s degree in Athletic Training or related field
A minimum of 2 years of clinical experience as a credentialed athletic trainer
