Job Summary/Basic Function:
Under administrative direction of the Director of Athletics at Lake Superior State University, we are seeking an Athletic Trainer responsible for performing a variety of duties to insure GLIAC DII athletic programs run efficiently and safely while delivering athletic training services to the participants of men's & women's DII basketball, women's DII volleyball, and DII track & field/cross country teams. Trainers may be involved in both the clinical and administrative areas including assisting with patient care and handling clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks.
Athletic trainer will be responsible for all athletic training duties for assigned teams.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate physical exams
- Evaluate and treat injuries at practices and competitions
- Design rehabilitation programs
- Coordinate pre-practice/game preparation of teams, including taping, bandaging and bracing
- Develop and revise emergency care procedures
- Maintain and prepare injury/treatment reports
- Prepare insurance claims

- Perform duties in cooperation with the University's team physician(s)
- Responsible for all athletic training duties including prevention of injuries
- Responsible for all medical equipment
- Must be willing and available to travel with GLIAC DII teams when possible
- Responsible for developing and maintaining departmental policies including student-athlete wellbeing
- Communicate with student-athletes and coaches as needed
- Prepare and maintain appropriate athletic injury care records and reports as required following all NCAA and GLIAC guidelines
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Must have a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree and NATABOC certification. Must be a member of good standing of the NATA; experience working in intercollegiate athletic programs and online medical tracking software preferred.
Physical Demands:
Adequate health and fitness to maintain long hours and busy schedule, and to travel with teams when possible. Use of gross motor skills to perform organizational duties; use of fine motor skills in operation of keyboard equipment to produce contracts, schedules, promotional materials, budgets and reports; ability to hear and speak clearly, with our without aids; ability to represent the University in public appearances, promotional and recruiting activities.
