Duties & Responsibilities:
The Athletics and Veterans Certifications Coordinator for the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships (OFAS) is responsible for overseeing all activities of coordinating student athletic financial aid awards. The position will also be responsible for certifying, processing, and reconciling awards for students that are eligible to participate in the Virginia Military Survivors and Dependents Education Program (VMSDEP). The person will serve as a liaison with VCU Athletics Compliance, Military Student Services, the Virginia Department of Veterans Affairs (DVS), the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV), and other VCU departments or external entities as deemed necessary.
Duties of the Coordinator include calculating the cost of attendance (COA) for student athletes, post athletic grant-in-aid awards to ensure that individual and team awards limits are not exceeded, review financial aid packages to ensure federal, state, institutional, and NCAA regulations are in compliance, complete and update squad lists on a regular basis using NCAA Compliance Assistant software, notify Athletics Compliance of any changes in student athlete eligibility status, and serve in an ex officio capacity for student athlete hearings involving aid non-renewals, cancellations, and reductions of aid. The coordinator will serve as a note taker for hearings and answer questions as related to policies and procedures.
