Athletics Compliance Coordinator

Western Colorado University invites applications for the position of Athletics Compliance Coordinator.

Responsibilities:  The Athletics Compliance Coordinator reports to the Associate Athletic Director of Business Operations and supervises one part-time, grant funded, student athlete experience coordinator, and one to two work study students. The Athletics Compliance Coordinator is a full-time professional that will be responsible for the strict compliance of the athletic department to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) rules and policies.  The position will develop processes and procedures to ensure athletic department compliance with the NCAA and RMAC rules. This position has primary responsibility to supervise coaches and staff regarding NCAA and RMAC rules compliance. The position will act as a liaison between the Faculty Athletic Representative and coaches in all academic eligibility issues. This position will assist with updating and maintaining Recruiting and Compliance Systems (ARMS) and monitor the recordkeeping of recruiting activities of coaching staff (e.g. contact and evaluation logs, phone logs and countable activity logs) ensuring compliance with NCAA rules and regulations. The job will also encompass all facets that deal with recruiting official visits, including, but not limited to: hotel reservations, gameday ticketing and follow through to clear prospective student official visits. This position will also require potential grant writing for student success and oversee student-athlete welfare. Assists with athletic game day operations, special events, and fundraising support, as needed.

This position will be expected to acquire and maintain a significant working knowledge of the rules and regulations set forth by the NCAA, the RMAC and Western Colorado University as well as be able to adhere to those same rules and regulations.

In addition to excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills the Compliance Coordinator will exhibit qualities of emotional maturity, genuineness, self-confidence, common sense and good judgment. This person should also possess the ability to make good, consistent and fair decisions based on available information as well as to be able to work with cross-functional teams and to foster teamwork.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in related field. One year of experience in NCAA athletics administration or compliance. One year overseeing support staff. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent customer service. Strong computer skills. A current valid driver’s license is required.

Preferred Qualifications:  Master’s degree in a related field. Three years in NCAA administration or compliance. Comprehensive understanding of NCAA and RMAC compliance requirements. Prior service as a chief compliance officer at an NCAA Division II institution. Working knowledge of NCAA Compliance Assistant (CA), LSDBi and the Eligibility Center. Previous experience serving as the compliance officer at an NCAA DII institution. Three or more years overseeing support or professional staff and managing budgets. Working knowledge of Workday and Arms. Proficient in computer software including Microsoft Office suite, Customer Relationship Management (CRM), etc.
