This is a full-time, overtime eligible, project position on the Olympia campus of The Evergreen State College. This project position is funded through June 30, 2025.
This position develops marketing, education, and outreach materials across the Student Wellness, Recreation, and Athletics (
SWRA
) department through the development of a variety of modalities including print, digital graphics, photography, and video projects. The position is responsible for designing and producing materials toward specific audiences, ensuring consistency in branding, design language, and messaging to ensure coordinated communication across the
SWRA
department and the college.
This position reports to the Director of Student Wellness, Recreation, and Athletics and works under general supervision and independently. The position works with the
SWRA
administrative team to develop a suite of communications and templates, as well as social media coverage to disseminate health education and information about programs and services across
SWRA
, including Student Wellness Services, Recreation and Outdoor programs, and Intercollegiate Athletics.
The incumbent fosters positive relationships among the
SWRA
staff and works with local and national media partners, Marketing and Communications staff, and Advancement staff to showcase programs and generate interest in attending and/or supporting the college.
Develop relationships with offices across
SWRA
to create content promoting departmental programs and events.
Create plans for regular marketing need analysis, quarterly goals, objectives, and timeline, and identify most effective strategies for reaching students and community members with educational and promotional materials.
Write copy for internal and external facing websites, publications, and communication templates.
Develop regular promotional materials, including posters, media guides, printed programs, and brochures to increase program and student athlete visibility.
Design, maintain, and update message boards and signs in the Costantino Recreation Center (
CRC
), Student Wellness, and on campus.
Work with Marketing and Communications staff to coordinate brand management and ensure publications and social media posts are consistent with the overall branding design of the College.
Assist with graphics, logos, and publication creation as needed within the department.
Develop a marketing and promotion plan for internal and external audiences for upcoming Evergreen sports events,
SWRA
special events, and newsworthy stories to generate interest in Evergreen and the
SWRA
programs.
Utilize a variety of platforms to disseminate information during games to fans, such as updating the website and posting to social media.
Create budget projections and proposals for production costs.
Develop positive relationships with local media who cover or may cover Evergreen sports/events and on-campus colleagues in Marketing and Communications, campus newspaper, radio station, Photo Services, Print Shop, Media Loan, etc.
Contribute to the overall fundraising mission of
SWRA
by working cooperatively with the
SWRA
administrative team and others on all departmental development and sales initiatives, including the creation of standard and custom sponsorship packets as assigned.
Develop promotional materials for summer youth camps sponsored by the department with the goal of quality and consistency in the publications.
Work with
SWRA
staff to develop promotional materials for potential students and external community members that create a unified theme for presenting the
SWRA
programs and the college to a broad audience.
Outstanding attention to detail.
Skill and ability in marketing and promotional plans and information distribution, including writing for and utilizing social media, developing website content, live feeds, and uploads and publication materials, such as brochures and programs.
Extensive knowledge of The Evergreen Green State College wellness center, sports and recreational information, as well as other campus offices and programs.
Ability to communicate respectfully and work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and foster a climate of equity and belonging.
Ability to collect and present data, including qualitative data and statistical information.
Skill in and ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines.
Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively and effectively as an integral member of the
SWRA
staff in planning and decision-making processes, and with a diverse community of students, faculty, staff, and public.
Skill and ability in a wide variety of computer programs and media platforms, including Microsoft 365, social media, web management programs, publishing software, etc.
Ability to learn, utilize, and teach others to use new technology/equipment as needed.
Knowledge of
FERPA
and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to climb step stools and reach for things in front of body and lift boxes weighing up to 40 pounds.
Ability to work outdoors with exposure to weather conditions, including rain, heat, and cold and in indoors environments that may include dust, noise, environmentally approved disinfectant fumes, and odors associated athletic facilities.
Ability to travel for occasional trips to other schools/facilities.
Ability to work before, during, and after all home games which occur during the day, as well as on evenings and weekends.
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field.
Two years of experience in a communication role in a college or university.
Experience creating traditional, photographic, video, and digital content for web, print, and/or social media.
Must provide proof of identity and employment eligibility within three days of beginning work.
This position is part of a bargaining unit and covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position.
Prior to an official offer of employment, a Declaration Regarding Sexual Misconduct form must be submitted to the college per
RCW
28B.112.080. The college will contact current and past employers to verify this information. Applicants who provide inaccurate information in their declaration will be disqualified and, if the inaccuracies are discovered after the applicant has been hired, it shall be grounds for termination.
