Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Director of SARC, the Coordinator of Student Athlete Admissions & Retention is responsible for coordinating the admissions reviews, evaluations, and ultimate admissions decisions for all student-athlete prospects. This includes coordinating with the Office of Athletic Compliance and Admissions, Outreach, and Orientation to meet all NCAA certification and admission processes and timelines. This position also coordinates retention efforts and services with student-athletes to resolve, both proactively and reactively, any issues affecting their athletics eligibility and their educational/career goals. The incumbent will coordinate specific programming for a high-profile sports program and will work with these student-athletes beginning as early as when they are in high school being recruited by Sacramento State coaches and continuing through (and sometimes beyond) graduation. This position’s responsibilities also requires the incumbent to understand and apply complex and varying rules (e.g., NCAA rules, Big Sky Conference rules, Sacramento State academic rules/policies) to a diverse population of students while helping them balance the demands of their academic and athletic pursuits.

This position is directly responsible for specific coordination with (1) all sport teams’ recruiting coordinators; (2) study skills support for designated student-athletes; (3) summer school enrollment/NCAA opt out requirements for student-athletes;

This position requires extensive knowledge of university programs and services for students and the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of administrators, faculty, staff, students, campus programs, and the public. This position works in a fast-paced, deadline driven office with a high level of student and staff/faculty contact.
