The Student Athlete Development Coordinator will support the mission of the Athletic Department’s SOAR program which is designed to empower and equip student-athletes with the training they need to thrive within and beyond the hedges. This position will be key in ensuring the successful execution of Flight Plan, an Alston-funded program aimed at four years of personal and professional development through effective communication, organization, and coordination. This role will also be responsible for using reporting metrics and data to assess the effectiveness of Flight Plan goals and activities. The Coordinator will aid in the implementation of all programmatic aspects that align with the SOAR pillars; personal enhancement, civic engagement, career development, leadership and DEI, and letterwinner engagement. The Coordinator will lead the Civic Engagement pillar in the SOAR office, coordinating and maintaining programs meant to connect Rice student-athletes to the Rice and Houston communities. This position will be responsible for coordinating the personal enhancement pillar by connecting Rice student-athletes with campus and community resources to develop effective life skills that position them to prosper following their time at Rice.

Workplace Requirements:

This position is exclusively on-site, necessitating all duties to be performed in-person on campus during both regular office hours, mornings, nights, and weekends as team schedule requires. This position will require regular travel. PerRice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.

*Exempt (salaried) positions underFLSA are not eligible for overtime.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree
• Must possess (or have the ability to obtain within thirty days of hire) and maintain a valid Texas driver's license and have no more than three moving violations and/or at fault accidents within the past three years. Must not have any DUIs or DWIs within the past five years
• One year of experience in student-athlete development, player development, and/or in a college/university athletics environment
• Additional education on a year by year basis may be used as a substitute for the experience requirement
• A commitment to diversity and inclusion
• Excellent communication skills, including written, oral, and visual
• Advising high‐level student leaders in 1‐1 setting
• Ability to apply student development and learning outcomes theories
• Ability to manage events and programs
• Ability to instruct students in risk management and program planning
• Verbal and written communication skills.
• Data analysis skills

Preferences:

• Master’s degree, 2+ years of experience
• Experience in college/university career services environment
• Experience in Student-Athlete Development, Sport Psychology, Mental Health, Career Services, or Event Management

Essential Functions:

• Support the mission of the Athletic Department’s SOAR program.
• Oversee the successful execution of Flight Plan through effective communication, organization, and coordination.
• Utilize reporting metrics and data to assess the effectiveness of Flight Plan goals and activities.
• Lead the coordination and maintenance of the Civic Engagement pillar, connecting student-athletes to the Rice and Houston communities.
• Coordinate programming in alignment with the personal enhancement pillar by fostering relationships with campus and community resources.
• Responsible for monitoring and tracking the student-athlete development of individuals on assigned teams to ensure athletes receive the necessary resources and attention for success in their collegiate and professional transitions.
• Assist with student-athlete leadership development through SAAC, PWAA, and other leadership groups.
• Responsible for logistics and marketing related to area(s) of responsibility.
• Documents and assesses area functions regularly while tracking progress using data reports and metrics, developing new outreach/training approaches as needed.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

Additional Functions

• Responsible for program logistics and execution of the annual personal growth and professional preparation events
• Aids in the development and implementation personal and professional growth programs, while effectively communicating opportunities with student-athletes, coaches, and relevant staff
• Responsible for tracking, nominating, ordering, and mailing out awards associated with the SOAR Office
• Performs all other duties as assigned
