Job Summary:
The Development Officer, Athletic Giving joins a team of Advancement professionals in a dynamic and expanding athletics program. This individual will collaborate with Bucknell’s Strategic Philanthropy Team as well as head coaches with the goal of securing significant revenue for Athletics. This position reports to the Director of Development, with a dotted line report to the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Revenue Generation & Strategic Advancement.Together with these senior staff administrators, the Development Officer/Senior Development Officer, Athletic Giving will build a pipeline, cultivate leadership-level multi-year pledges, and focus on six-figure+ commitments designated to Athletics.
Job Duties:
General Duties and Responsibilities:
Portfolio Management (70%): Consistently engage in strategic face-to-face meetings and build relationships with athletic prospects and donors to secure gifts for the Bison Club and advance the donor continuum. Strategically increase gifts and build a pipeline from an assigned group of athletics prospects, meeting annual data-driven metrics. Manage all aspects of a portfolio, including identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Appropriately steward existing donors to foster enduring relationships. Ensure the accuracy of donor records and promptly update solicitations, contact reports, and prospect strategy in the database.
Strategy,Outreach & Engagement (30%): Develop strategies to align athletic donor interests with University priorities. Collaborate with university leadership to develop tailored approaches for engaging donors effectively and maximizing fundraising outcomes. Participate in portfolio strategy reviews. Partner with University Advancement colleagues to oversee strategic athletic development events and subsequent intentional follow-up to secure gifts. Develop excellent working relationships with faculty, senior leaders, administrators, trustees, volunteers, and UA colleagues on strategic objectives for long term financial sustainability. Staff athletics events and large scale campus events, and plan visits for individual constituents to return to campus for meaningful cultivation.
Travel: This position requires extensive travel (including air travel and travel to major metropolitan areas) approximately 50% of the time, with the responsibility of meeting with alumni and parents.
This position requires occasional evening and weekend work to support university events including Homecoming/Family Weekend, Reunion Weekend, and athletics events. We do ask staff to mark their calendars in advance for these events. This position may occasionally coordinate on-campus or off-campus events/activities outside of standard business hours.
Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and four years of successful experience in fundraising, sales, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Broad knowledge of the principles of fundraising in collegiate sports
Demonstrates ability to professionally represent Bucknell and communicate effectively with various diverse audiences including alumni, coaches, donors, faculty/staff and University leadership
Demonstrates practical application and experience with technology such as database functions/reports, and Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Suite
Demonstrable track record of creative and collaborative strategy that results in successful closures of gifts/sales/related experience or in building relationships
Valid U.S. driver's license
Willingness to travel (including air travel to major metropolitan areas)
Preferred qualifications:
Major gift experience with a successful track record of closing six- and seven-figure gifts in a higher education setting
Proven success building revenue generating programs
Experience in athletics fundraising or related role
Knowledge of and commitment to NCAA rules compliance, as well as familiarity with NCAA Division I athletic programs
