Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Development and Alumni Relations, this position plays a vital role in advancing the university’s philanthropic efforts. The Development Officer is responsible for discovering, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individual donors and corporate sponsors in support of Angelo State University, with a primary emphasis on athletics.
Typical Duties/Job Duties
Responsible for developing key relationships with identified donor prospects and corporate sponsors. Make 175 face to face visits per year for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship purposes.
Serve as lead for athletic-specific fundraising efforts and coordinate with the athletic director and head coaches on fundraising strategies and stewardship efforts.
Solicit and manage all corporate sponsorship packages including athletics inventory to maximize exposure and results for the university and its sponsors.
Responsible for direct oversight and vision of Ram Club by working closely with the Ram Club Board of Directors. Develop, coordinate, and execute strategies to grow membership of Ram Club.
Attend alumni and donor related meetings and functions, to entertain donors and prospects.
Oversee the stewardship of donor base and corporate sponsors through thank you calls, notes, e-mails, etc; works with development staff to ensure timely, accurate and appropriate stewardship of donors. Uses a variety of delivery systems and methods to solicit and maximize giving participation rates: Phonathon, appeal letters, e-solicitations, and campus events.
Work closely with Database Coordinator to ensure appropriate database updates are made and do not contact lists are followed while researching new and current individuals to solicit.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of and/or ability to quickly master NCAA rules and regulations governing donor/student-athlete relationships and related functions, including new and emerging protocols related to Name, Image and Likeness (NIL).
Knowledge of fundraising and stewardship cycles.
Knowledge of collecting and analyzing marketing data and making programmatic decisions based on information.
Ability to strategically build and implement a program, achieve performance goals, and develop methods to achieve goals.
Skilled in oral and written communications.
Ability to demonstrate initiative and motivational drive.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree plus two years experience in development, marketing or related field.
Must be able to demonstrate a proven track record of effective communication skills and ability to show evidence of strong organizational/interpersonal and communication skills.
