Georgia Tech Office of Development (DEV)

Led by the Vice President for the Office of Development, Jim Hall (https://www.linkedin.com/in/jim-hall-913270131/), our fundraising team at Georgia Tech currently consists of more than 100 professionals who are focused on securing transformative philanthropy (major and principal gifts) to support the strategic priorities of the Institute and its colleges, schools, and programs, including Georgia Tech Athletics. For fiscal year 2024 (closed 6/30/2024), the Development teams efforts resulted in over $243 million in new gifts and commitments in support of Transforming Tomorrow: The Campaign for Georgia Tech which will secure more than $2 billion in new commitments and gifts from individuals, foundations, corporations, and other organizations. One of the most significant priorities within Transforming Tomorrow is ensuring access of the brightest undergraduate, graduate, and professional students to Georgia Tech, regardless of their socioeconomic backgrounds. Within the campaign, Athletics has become the first unit on campus to surpass its initial fundraising target of $300M to support facilities, current operations, and endowment. Following this success, Athletics¿ priorities and goals will be expanded and increased during the final years of the campaign in order to fulfill the vision of Georgia Tech Athletics, ensure the athletic and academic success of our student-athletes both on and off the fields and courts of competition, and provide a sustainable financial base for Athletics within the ever-changing marketplace of collegiate sports.
 

Job Summary

 

Front line development officer responsible for planning and implementing a coordinated program of Alexander-Tharpe fundraising activities. Uses professional relationship building skills to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gift prospects. Establishes and effectively manages relationships with significant prospects. Support special events to involve and cultivate major gift prospects. Identifies stewardship opportunities for major gift prospects. Designs and implements comprehensive plans, Collaborates with athletics coaches and staff, and coordinates with
development, and alumni relations staff. Typically solicits gifts in the range of $25,000 to $1 million, and manages a portfolio size (average annual fundraising accountability) of $1 to $2 million. Prospect pool managed is up to 200 prospects. This position will interact on a regular basis with: major and principal gift donors, and prospective donors, including alumni,
parents, representatives of corporation and foundations, staff, and volunteers. This position typically will advise and counsel: Program leadership, unit volunteer leadership, and other development officers. This position will supervise: NA.

Responsibilities

 

Job Duty 1 -
Design and implement comprehensive fundraising plans for assigned college, school, program, region, or constituency.

Job Duty 2 -
Use professional relationship building skills to develop and implement plans and strategies for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gift donors and prospective donors. Close major gifts and commitments, personally and consistently, with a typical gift solicitation range of $25,000 to $1 million.

Job Duty 3 -
Maintain ongoing relationships and provide exceptional donor stewardship to encourage future giving.

Job Duty 4 -
.Establish and maintain a high degree of collaboration with other
development officers, athletics coaches and staff, and other Institute
academic and executive officers.

Job Duty 5 -
Submit timely contact reports, prospect plans, and solicitations into tracking system.

Job Duty 6 -
Prepare written development materials including case statements, proposals, and fundraising initiative/ campaign related literature for assigned college, school, and/or program(s).

Job Duty 7 -
Support special events and/or advisory board meetings to involve and cultivate major gift prospects.

Job Duty 8 -
Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

 

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Other Required Qualifications
Travel is an essential part of the position as is participation in evening and weekend activities.

Required Experience
Three to five years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising and/or relevant experience in sales and marketing, or other related fields.

Preferred Qualifications

 

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master's degree; Minimum three years of proven college athletic fundraising experience and results
in soliciting and closing five and six-figure major gifts in a higher education setting and a campaign environment.

Proposed Salary

 

Salary: $85,119-$90,200

SKILLS
This position requires broad knowledge of fundraising approaches and the highest levels of interpersonal skills, ethical standards, and good judgement.  This position is expected to drive team results while building long term, meaningful donor relationships. This position also requires excellent skills in building long-term relationships, written and verbal communications, prioritizing, negotiating, influencing, interpersonal, strategic planning, project management, program administration and organization, as well as self-motivation, ability to work independently and as a team member, and capacity for multi-tasking. Use of office related computer applications is required.
