Apply NowThe Director of Football Performance reports to the Associate Athletic Director/Director of Athletic Training Services and the Head Football Coach. The Director of Football Performance works directly with football student-athletes and the football coaching staff. With input from the football coaching staff, the Director of Football Performance will develop programs for the enhancement of strength, conditioning and movement development for football. The Director of Football Performance has administrative responsibilities related to the development and management of Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coaches, as well as supervision and maintenance of all NUDAR strength and conditioning facilities.
Specific Responsibilities :
· Strength and Conditioning Development- 65%
o Coordinate the overall physical strength, cardiovascular conditioning, position-specific agility, and speed development programming for football including program mission and annual development goals.
o Responsible for developing strength and conditioning programs for specific training phases with program review provided by the Director of Athletic Training Services, Head Team Physician and Head Football Coach.
o Maintain a program-wide record system that will allow for the monitoring of student-athlete progress in the area of strength and conditioning development.
o Participate in monthly Student-Athlete Performance Summit with Intercollegiate Sports Medicine Staff.
o Work directly with football student-athletes to motivate them in regards to the importance of strength and conditioning programs.
o Develop and implement National Football League and other professional football pre-combine/draft preparation programs (strength, speed, and position-specific drills and testing) for draft-eligible student-athletes.
· Program Development With Staff- 15%
o Supervise strength and conditioning coaching techniques performed by Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coaches, Graduate Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coaches and Interns assigned to football.
o Participate in regular periodic staff meetings for all strength and conditioning staff.
o Responsible to work with the Athletic Training Staff to assist in the execution of rehabilitation programs for football as necessary.
· Administrative- 15%
o With the Director of Strength and Conditioning, develop and implement policies and procedures regarding intercollegiate strength and conditioning programs; policies and procedures to be reviewed the Associate Athletic Director/Director of Athletic Training Services and Head Football Coach.
o Work directly with the Director of Facilities on maintenance and improvement projects for department-wide strength and conditioning facilities. Responsible for the overall image and environment of all strength and conditioning facilities for each of our sport programs.
o Responsible for the development and enforcement of safe programming within all strength and conditioning facilities for each of our sport programs.
o With the Head Football Coach, responsible for scheduling direct and certified strength and conditioning coach supervision of all strength and conditioning activities for football including the assurance that a Certified Athletic Trainer supervises conditioning activities and is accessible during strength training activities. Duties also include, but are not limited to:
· Establishing and posting of strength and conditioning facility hours for football.
· ii. Establishing and posting of strength and conditioning facility regulations.
· iii. Maintaining appropriate football student-athlete conduct in strength and conditioning facilities.
o With the Associate Athletic Director/Director of Athletic Training Services and Head Football Coach, maintain a fiscally responsible budget for the strength and conditioning development of football.
o Promote the strength training and conditioning program at Northwestern University at requested times including but not limited to the recruitment of prospective football student-athletes.
o Develop annual Performance Excellence evaluations of Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coaches, Graduate Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coaches and Interns assigned to football.
o Work with Associate Athletic Director/Director of Athletic Training Services, Head Football Coach, and NUDAR Human Resources specialist to coordinate the recruitment and identification of successful candidates for vacant Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coaches, Graduate Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coaches and Intern positions assigned to football.
o Provide the Associate Athletic Director/Director of Athletic Training Services and Head Football Coach, before June1, a yearly report documenting the progress of student-athletes in the area of strength training and conditioning.
· Other- 5%
o Represent the Department at University, Big Ten Conference, and national-level conferences and professional development opportunities.
o Participate in special projects initiated by the Associate Athletic Director/Director of Athletic Training Services, Head Football Coach or through own creativity and innovation.
o Responsible for adhering to all Department and University policies and procedures, as well as the rules, regulations, bylaws and interpretations of the Big Ten Conference and the NCAA.
Miscellaneous
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
· Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) by the NSCA maintained throughout employment
· Significant strength and conditioning coaching experience with collegiate student-athletes
Preferred Qualifications:
· Maintenance of CPR, AED and First Aid training required
· Master's degree preferred
Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)
· Previous management of strength and conditioning staff preferred
· Knowledge of rules and regulations of the NCAA, Big Ten Conference and Northwestern University
