Position Summary:

Henderson State University is in search of a Director of Intercollegiate Athletics to direct its successful NCAA Division II athletic department. The University, under the leadership of Chancellor Trey Berry as of January 1, 2024, is committed to maintaining the academic and athletic excellence of its comprehensively successful athletic program into the future. Reporting to the Chancellor of the University, this position directs all aspects of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics including the overall direction, management, coordination and supervision of a comprehensive NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletics program with 14 sports teams and over 400 student-athletes. The Athletic Director will be responsible for compliance with all institutional, Great American Conference and NCAA policies, rules and regulations.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Demonstrate sufficient financial management experience to oversee the athletics budget.
• Represent Henderson State University athletics at institutional, community, conference and national meetings.
  
• Advise the Chancellor and senior administrative officers on issues and trends relating to intercollegiate athletics and other issues and opportunities related to the daily management of the intercollegiate athletics program.
  
• Develop, mentor, and retain coaches and staff.
  
• Provide leadership to support the overall and holistic student-athletic experience.
  
• Significant responsibility in athletic department fundraising activities related to major gifts, capital gifts, annual fund, donor cultivation and corporate sponsorship opportunities.
  
• Day to day management of personnel, budgets, compliance, facilities, event management and HR functions.
  
• Work closely with the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine to ensure student-athlete health, safety and wellness is the top priority within the department.
  
• Work across campus to provide engagement opportunities that benefit all aspects of the campus experience.
  
• Promote and encourage an inclusive and equitable community amongst student-athletes, coaches, staff and the campus community.
  
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Chancellor.
  

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

•Strong public presentation skills.
•Ability to set priorities and manage several projects simultaneously.
•Ability to function as a team member required.
•Candidates must have the ability to effectively communicate with various athletics constituencies including coaches, conference and NCAA officials, donors, faculty, staff administration, and alumni.
•Candidates must also exhibit strong commitment to academic excellence, student success, and the role of athletics in the overall mission and strategic goals of the University.

Minimum Qualifications:

•Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university required. Master's degree preferred.
•Minimum five years of experience in a senior leadership role in intercollegiate athletics.
•Candidates must have extensive knowledge of NCAA bylaws and regulations.
•Comprehensive understanding of Division II intercollegiate athletics administration is preferred.
•Supervisory experience of personnel, budgets, sport supervision preferred.
•A demonstrated understanding and commitment to Title IX and Gender Equality.
•Experience in internal and external functions of intercollegiate athletics leadership.
•Experience in fundraising and donor solicitation.
