Established in 2013, Trojan Outreach seeks to promote health and education in Southern California by connecting the local community to student-athletes at USC athletics events. This role will oversee all elements of the program, including staffing, budget management, event planning, student-athlete mentorship, community relationship building, and PR. Trojan Outreach events include elementary school reading programs, holiday gift giveaways, and ticket donation programs. An ideal candidate has a background in non-profit management, community organizing, or fundraising.

This is a full-time position with work expected to include some weekends in support of athletic and community events. Understanding of the unique culture and needs of college athletes is preferred. Candidates will drive to destinations within the greater Los Angeles area.
Roles and responsibilities to include:
Lead Trojan Outreach with a vision for making meaningful impacts on the health and education of Southern California communities.
Plan major community events at USC Athletics competitions. Coordinate with other members of the athletic department to integrate Trojan Outreach events into the wider game operations plan.
Manage the Trojan Outreach staff to execute events, maintain community relations, and track the program’s impact.
Develop strong civic and community partnerships throughout Los Angeles.
Oversee the creation of all promotional material and PR releases from Trojan Outreach. Ensure meaningful metrics for program efficacy are being tracked. Work in conjunction with the Sports Information Department to release relevant content.
Maintain private donor relationships and foster continued support for Trojan Outreach via corporate partnerships and public grants.
Mentor student-athletes with an interest in social justice or philanthropic pursuits.
Develop and plan programs to engage and support the community and employees. Organize and administer events to educate and inform the community on the details of the organization’s cause.
Work with members of the local business community and any relevant external agencies to identity and develop effective improvement strategies.
Oversee coordination of outreach program activities. Schedule program events and maintains accurate event records.
Research and identify potential funding sources for program expansion.
Promotes an environment that fosters inclusive relationships and creates unbiased opportunities for contributions through ideas, words, and actions that uphold principles of the USC Code of Ethics.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred) and a minimum of three years of experience (five years preferred) in community outreach or non-profit management. Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education.
Valid driver’s license is required.
Proficient with Microsoft Office and Adobe.
Experience working in higher education and/or a sports related field ideal.
Demonstrated experience leading community outreach initiatives.
Practiced use of discretion and decision-making ability.
Excellent written and oral communication skills and a proven ability to build and maintain deep and meaningful relationships with community members and other outside agencies.
The ideal candidate will preferably possess an understanding and appreciation of the cultural vibrancy and historical significance of the local community, as well as proven ability to make important decisions effectively and efficiently, employing successful strategies and management ideologies.
In addition, the successful candidate must also demonstrate, through ideas, words and actions, a strong commitment to USC’s Unifying Values of integrity, excellence, diversity, equity and inclusion, well-being, open communication and accountability.
Salary Range:
The annual base salary range for this position is $80,000-90,000. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
