ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Student Success division at the University of South Florida, is comprised of 60 departments, providing students with academic support, engagement opportunities, health & wellness services and enhancement of the educational experience. The Academic Services team, which has a dual report to Undergraduate Studies and Athletics, provides services, programming, functions and outreach for USF student-athletes that results in satisfactory academic progress and graduation of student-athletes. Academic Services maintains a staff of 12 full-time employees, a team of 4-6 post-baccalaureate interns and full complement of tutorial staff to serve a community of approximately 500 student-athletes representing 19 NCAA Division I sport programs.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The DirectorFootball Academics in Undergraduate Studies/Academic Services in Athletics will lead the academic support services for USF football student-athletes. This position is responsible for the planning, implementation and evaluation of academic support programming and academic progress monitoring for the assigned student-athlete caseload. This includes preparing and analyzing reports, leading and participating in meeting with coaching staff and administration, participation in university committees and meetings, conducting one-on-ones with staff and student-athletes, and assisting with recruiting-related events. The Dir Football Academics will serve in a leadership position on staff, maintaining an environment of compliance and supporting the unit's academic initiatives. The position will supervise administrative and academic intern staff and directly support the Associate Athletic Director of Academic Services in Athletics. The Academic Services Administrator must adheres to all NCAA, Conference, and University rules and regulations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Development and Coordination of Academic Support for Men's Football program: Work with Associate Athletic Director of Academic Services in setting the structure and vision for the academic support program. Responsible for proactive and strategic planning involving support, advising, mentoring and development of current, former and future student-athletes. Collaborate with appropriate Academic Services, Athletics, UGS and campus staff, and coaching staff in supporting student-athletes and applicable programming.
Reporting, Data Tracking and Athletics Certification: Create and manage individual Academic Success Plans (ASPs) for all assigned student-athletes. Provide detailed and timely daily reports, grade reports and updates on the academic progress of all assigned student-athletes. Responsible for the monitoring and tracking of continuing eligibility for all assigned student-athletes, including management of applicable reports. Collaborate with Academic Services, Athletics Compliance and University Registrar's Office in support of the Athletics certification process.
Advising and Academic Planning: Advise and counsel new and continuing student-athletes in accordance with the assessment of student academic record information and NCAA guidelines. Maintain accurate and up-to-date degree plans and strategically advising student-athletes in accordance with the rules and regulations set for per the NCAA, American Athletic Conference and USF while working a "student-focused" approached aimed at meeting academic and career goals. Confirm transfer assessments completed by Assistant University Registrar.
Employee and Departmental Management Support: Direct supervision of designated administrative and academic intern staff. Serve as a support for the Director and provide leadership and guidance to all other team members.
Committees and Program Administration: Serve on the IGNITE Summer Bridge Program Planning Committee. Serve as a representative on the Intern Development Program (IDP) Supervisors committee. Represent Academic Services in meetings and on select committees across UGS and campus.
Oversee the USF Athletics Degree Completion Program for exhausted eligibility and returning
Performs other duties as assigned
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires Master's or a Bachelor's degree.
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in advising, athletics, or related academic functions within higher education, regardless of degree level.
Degree Equivalency Clause: Six years of direct experience for a master's degree. Four years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree
PREFERRED:
Experience working with revenue sports, at-risk student-athletes, coaches, support staff and administration in an intercollegiate athletics department at the Division I level and experience utilizing Teamworks and Retain preferred. Preferred degree in Education, Counseling or academic field directly related to the academic service administrator's specific responsibilities.
