The Director of Social Media / Football will create, direct, manage & execute the day-to-day social media content of Virginia Tech’s Football program. This position is charged with planning & creating engaging content to tell the story of Virginia Tech Football in ways which not only resonates with fans, alums, but also prospective student-athletes. This position will utilize the following social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube & TikTok. Ideal candidates possess a passion for college sports, elite work ethic, experience writing social copy under pressure & an ability to capture photos, create graphics & produce short videos optimized for social environments. The Director of Social Media / Football will be embedded with the program year-round.
The position reports directly to the Associate AD, Chief of Staff / Football & indirectly to the Associate AD of Digital Strategy. This role is responsible for adhering to all department & university policies & procedures, as well as the rules, regulations, bylaws & interpretations of the Atlantic Coast Conference [ACC] & National Collegiate Athletic Association [NCAA].
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with relevant experience working in collegiate athletics or similar field or a master's degree.
Experience working in social media.
Excellent communication skills; especially copy writing.
Ability to deliver timely, creative content [text, image & video].
Detailed oriented & organized.
Ability to work well with others & possess the necessary mentality to do good work.
Possess initiative to solve problems & drive improvement.
Desire to lead groups towards a common goal.
Base level proficiency of video, photo & graphic editing skills.

Preferred Qualifications
Relevant experience planning, creating & executing social media within a collegiate athletic program &/or professional sports organization.
Strong video editing, photo, graphic editing skills; ability to use Adobe Creative Suite proficiently.
Proficiency in social media management tools.
Possess an understanding of social media analytics; create performance reports to help colleagues drive optimization.
Working knowledge of NCAA compliance rules & bylaws.
