Position Summary & Description

Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) invites applicants for a full-time Director of Strategic Communications and Ideation for Athletics to assist in all aspects of the IUP Athletics Department. Working under the supervision of the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, this position will be specifically responsible for planning, organizing, and administering a comprehensive departmental sports information program.

IUP Athletics is a premier Division II Athletics program, competing as a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).

Description of Duties:

Implement a comprehensive sports information department, including all aspects of media relations and communications, internal and external marketing of the Athletic Program

• Manage the IUP Athletics brand, adhering to guidelines set by the Marketing and Communications Office.
• Maintain and update the athletic department webpage, including posts on games, awards, and various team and department news items; team schedules, rosters, biographies, statistics, records and history; other athletic department key information; continuously add pages where deemed necessary.
• Produce press releases to be distributed to appropriate media.
• Direct IUP athletic department social media channels.
• Produce visual design materials for use on the website, social media channels, facility branding, marketing needs, etc.
• Manage athletic communications office budget.
• Supervise student support staff.

• Complete nomination forms for conference, regional, and national athletic and academic awards for student-athletes.
• Create game programs and any other game-related printed or digital materials.
• Work with staff at the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex on marketing strategies for designated IUP sports and games.
• Assist in the production of annual reports on IUP athletics for senior policy makers.

Serve as liaison between IUP athletic department and university offices, local, regional, statewide and national media.

• Communicate and coordinate with IUP’s Marketing and Communications Office when appropriate.
• Schedule and carry out interviews with IUP players and coaches as requested.
• Provide media with all requested information on a timely basis.
• Reports results on all IUP athletics to all regional media outlets.
• Work closely with PSAC sports information directors and the PSAC office. Provide nomination information for weekly and yearly awards when appropriate.

Oversee process of in-game statistics for baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, football, field hockey, women’s lacrosse, women’s soccer, softball, and women’s volleyball.

• Hire and supervise student statistics crews.

This is a non-represented management position.

Position Qualifications

MINIMUM:
Bachelors Degree

PREFERRED:
Masters Degree

Essential Functions

The work of this position occurs in a typical office environment. Although infrequent, periods of heavy exertion may occur. Incumbent must have the following abilities:

1. Regular, reliable and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job function, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, professional, harmonious working relationships with others.
2. This position requires work outside normal business hours including evenings and weekends as needed to partner effective, provide prompt customer service and/or as requested by senior HR management.
3. Ability to travel to field locations and meeting/training sites by motor vehicle when required.
4. Communicate both orally and in writing to issue, receive and carry out instructions and orders effectively and to convey information to a variety of co-workers and the general public.
5. Use of variety of common office machines such as telephones, calculators, copiers, computer terminals, keyboards, auxiliary printers, and similar equipment.
6. Perform manual duties such as lifting and carrying various weight limits.
7. Duties performed may require stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching and prolonged standing.
8. Provide assistance and guidance to internal and external customers.
