Job Description

Dakota Wesleyan University (DWU) seeks a dedicated and experienced individual to join the athletic department as the Director of Strength and Conditioning. This role is integral to developing and implementing comprehensive strength and conditioning programs for all 18 sports teams. The successful candidate will be pivotal in advancing the personal growth and athletic performance of DWU athletes while embodying the core institutional values of learning, leadership, faith, and service. Start date will be Fall 2024.

Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will:

  • A bachelor's degree is required. A Master’s degree is preferred. Certification as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) from the National Strength and Conditioning Association. And/or Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) credential from the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Proven ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Design and implement sport-specific strength and conditioning programs for all varsity athletic teams.
  • Effectively communicate with a diverse population of student-athletes, coaches, and institutional stakeholders.
  • Maintain a safe and respectful environment, emphasizing student-athlete welfare.
  • Responsible for developing policies and protocols that ensure a safe and productive working environment, including the frequent inspection of all equipment, appropriate organization and cleanliness of the facility, and the active monitoring and coaching of training sessions.
  • Coordinate the scheduling of weight room training for all athletic programs.
  • Instruct student-athletes in the proper and safe techniques of weight training, plyometrics, speed development, conditioning, and agility movements that are current and scientifically valid.
  • Educate student-athletes on the areas of performance enhancement.
