Job Summary/Basic Function

Job Summary:

Central State University, Intercollegiate Athletics, invites applications for the position of Director of Strength & Conditioning. This position will be responsible for overseeing efforts in the areas of strength & conditioning for the Intercollegiate Athletics Department. Responsibilities include designing, implementing, and supervising student-athletes during training sessions for all NCAA DII (FCS) athletic teams for in-season, post-season, pre-season, and non-traditional season; demonstrating all training exercises and conditioning drills; overseeing the organization & administration of the weight room; and in compliance with NCAA, SIAC and University policies and procedures.
The Director of Strength & Conditioning will report to the Athletic Director and assist with promoting CSU’s vision, mission, and values within all Athletic Department activities. Additional responsibilities will include communicating effectively with all coaches, staff, and student-athletes, coordinating all aspects of strength & conditioning for student-athletes, and performing other duties as assigned by the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics or Associate Athletic Director.

Program Development and Planning (25-30%): Designing and implementing strength and conditioning programs for various sports teams. Collaborating with coaches and sports medicine staff to tailor programs to specific sport requirements. Conducting assessments and evaluating athletes’ physical fitness levels.

Supervision and Training (20-25%): Overseeing strength and conditioning interns. Providing guidance and training to athletes on proper exercise techniques. Monitoring athletes during workouts to ensure safety and adherence to the program.

Equipment and Facility Management (10-15%): Managing and maintaining strength and conditioning facilities and equipment. Coordinating with athletic department personnel for facility access and scheduling.

Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation (10-15%): Collaborating with sports medicine staff to develop injury prevention strategies. Assisting in the rehabilitation process for injured athletes.
Administration and Documentation (10-15%): Keeping detailed records of athletes’ progress and program effectiveness. Handling administrative tasks such as budgeting, scheduling, and reporting.

Professional Development and Education (5-10%): Staying updated on the latest trends and research in strength and conditioning. Continuing education and certifications to enhance professional expertise.

Recruitment and Communication (5-10%): Participating in the recruitment process by showcasing the strength and conditioning program to potential athletes. Communicating with coaches, athletes, and athletic department staff. Compliance with Policies and

Regulations (5-10%): Ensuring compliance with NCAA or other relevant governing body regulations. Adhering to safety protocols and guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s degree (Required), master’s degree (Preferred) in exercise science, kinesiology or a related field from an accredited university.

Must be certified through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa), Strength & Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) or National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). In addition, certification through the United States of America Weightlifting (USAW-Sport Performance Coach) is strongly preferred.

Must be currently CPR/AED and First Aid certified. Two or more years of strength and conditioning experience at the collegiate level.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience working with Olympic sports and female student athletes.

Candidate must be passionate and enthusiastic about the field of strength and conditioning as well as knowledgeable in strength training, speed, agility, flexibility, nutrition and cardiovascular conditioning.

Candidate must have a demonstrated ability to effectively teach and execute proper technique of Olympic lifts and drills; demonstrated ability to manage and supervise team training sessions and assist with the maintenance and upkeep of the strength and conditioning facilities.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs is highly encouraged.
This position may also require driving responsibility for a Central State university vehicle. Due to driving responsibilities, you must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with CSU’s Vehicle Driving policy.

Able to work all shifts and extended hours to include holidays, nights, and weekends.

This is a NCAA three-year grant position with the opportunity for the position to be renewed after three years.
