Job Description:

The Director for Athletic Pep Band will direct, recruit, and manage the overall program of instrumental music for the University Pep Band. S/he will provide students with an opportunity to participate in all university band activities and ensure compliance with all athletic/NCAA requirements. Reporting directly to the Assistant Director of Athletic Development and Fan Experience the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

Job Description:

The Director for Athletic Pep Band will direct, recruit, and manage the overall program of instrumental music for the University Pep Band. S/he will provide students with an opportunity to participate in all university band activities and ensure compliance with all athletic/NCAA requirements. Reporting directly to the Assistant Director of Athletic Development and Fan Experience the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manage all facets of the University Athletic Band program (including, but not limited to: budget, recruiting, administration, public appearances, and travel)
• Create and maintain positive connections and relationships with high schools to establish a recruiting base from which future members will be recruited
• Work closely with the university’s Offices of Admissions and Financial Aid to identify and recruit future band members.
• Must be able to arrange music for different parts of the pep band ensemble.
• Establish performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student’s eligibility to participate in pep band.
• Direct and coordinate university pep band for attendance at all home men’s basketball games, and a select few women’s basketball games.
• Maintain compliance with all federal and state laws, NCAA and Northeast Conference rules, and Mount St. Mary’s University rules and regulations.
• Obtain and evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to determine program effectiveness and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responds to student needs.
• Travel may be required for off-campus band trips/events.
• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements: Education, Experience and Skills:

• Demonstrated success leading a marching/pep band.
• Demonstrated success in developing/recruiting new members to the band.
• Demonstrated musical, financial, and administrative success with college and/or high school concert and athletic bands.
• Demonstrated skill in arranging music.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of overall operation of instrumental music program.
• Ability to manage budget and personnel knowledge of state and MSMU/NCAA policies governing band.
• Ability to implement policy and procedures.
• Ability to interpret data.
• Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
