The primary accountabilities are intended to describe the general content of and requirements of this position and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties. This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. A valid driver’s license issued by the State where the applicant resides and insurability as defined in UTS 157 may be required to perform the position's essential functions.
Oversees the UTEP Athletics Sports Medicine Department, staff and facilities. Supervises Associate Director of Sports Medicine, assistant athletic trainers and student athletic trainers. Provides direct oversight for Football or Men’s Basketball. The successful applicant is responsible for the healthcare of all student-athletes, and coordinates prevention and treatment of athletically related injuries to student-athletes.
Essential Functions
Directs and supervises the operation of the Sports Medicine Department and the Athletic Training room, to include developing necessary policies and procedures.
Manage allied health partners to ensure proper evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of student-athletes.
Supervises Associate Director of Sports Medicine, Assistant Athletics Trainer(s) and Student Athletic Trainer(s).
Works with Vice President and Director of Athletics to administer the drug testing program for student-athletes.
Submits budget requests for Sports Medicine operations. Coordinates the purchase of all supplies and equipment to ensure efficient and economical methods of operations.
Maintains records on student-athletes and ensures the accuracy of files stored in the University’s Athletic Training Room.
Attends scheduled team practices and competitions, to include all home and away events for designated sports programs, or assigns a certified assistant to attend all other home athletic events.
Travels to designated athletic events on extended trips or assigns an assistant.
Serves on Athletics Senior Staff and attends biweekly Senior Staff meetings when available.
Follows the NATA Code of Ethics; remains current on all state and national requirements for license/ Certification renewal.
Maintains all training room equipment and apparatus; performs yearly safety inspections.
Approves all medical and dental referrals, responsible for approval and denial or denial of payment for medical or dental treatments and medication.
Works with staff to develop and implement short and long-range plans, conceptual designs, and capital outlay (budget) requirements and documentation for assigned area(s).
Knowledge of and adherence to NCAA/Conference rules and regulations as they apply to student athletes in this area.
Knowledge of and compliance with NCAA Rules and Regulations, including timely completion of all NCAA forms and requests for information.
Employee agrees to abide by the Code of Ethics as set forth by the University of Texas at El Paso and the University of Texas System.
Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems.
Complies with all State and University policies.
