Position Overview
The Consultant of Engagement and Alumni Relations will provide strategic direction for engagement, donor relations, stewardship, and advancement connections through various channels. This role focuses on developing annual giving strategies for Varsity O and its alumni base of over 11,000 to support scholarships and programmatic funding. The Consultant will also foster innovative partnerships with the Alumni Association and Athletics to enhance philanthropic support and engagement through OSU2U events in major markets.
Key responsibilities include developing innovative virtual and in-person experiences for alumni, donors, volunteers, and friends, particularly through regional team sporting events and "meet the teams" experiences. The position ensures alignment with the strategic plans of the Alumni Association and Athletics, coordinates large-scale activities with various university members, and oversees the annual giving strategy for Varsity O to support scholarships and programs. Additionally, the Consultant will work to engage young alumni, support OSU2U and the Buckeye Athlete Network, coordination of annual letter winner awards, oversee the Athletics Hall of Fame banquet, pregame game gatherings for former student-athletes, and collaborate with colleagues on sport-specific alumni engagement initiatives. The position also involves budgeting, expense monitoring, and supporting the OSUAA Athletic Council Representative and the Varsity O Board of Directors. Occasional evening and weekend work is required.

Duties and Responsibilities
60% Provide strategic direction for engagement, donor relations, stewardship, and advancement connections. Develop innovative virtual and in-person experiences as cultivation strategies and engagement opportunities for alumni, donors, volunteers and friends through team sporting events in regional markets and “meet the teams” experiences and all activities around Buckeye home sporting events including tailgate festivities, anniversary team recognitions, and other honorary moments celebrating great former student-athlete achievements. Set clear direction in alignment with the Alumni Association and Athletics strategic plans, providing feedback and support to the team. Coordinates with various members of the university community to involve them in implementing complex and large activities. Develop and oversee the annual giving strategy for Varsity O to support scholarships and programmatic funding. Coordinate with OSUAA Annual Giving staff and Athletics development staff to create a plan of action to meet annual and campaign goals. Work directly with The Gene Smith Leadership Institute to engage former student-athletes with current student-athletes around mentoring, job shadowing and shared life experiences. Responsible for being detail oriented and have the ability to respect confidentiality while handling sensitive information. Oversees multiple priorities and projects of a complex and large scope. Plan and execute engagement activities through team sporting events in regional markets and “meet the teams” experiences. Serve as staff liaison to Varsity O Board and work directly with members on strategic direction, event planning, and Athletics Hall of Fame selection process.
35% Maintain budgets and monitors expenses for specific complex and large initiatives or events. Increase awareness and deepen relationships with young alumni through Buckeye Athlete Network, coordination of annual letter winner awards, OSU2U and the Scarlet and Gray Send Off annual event for graduating seniors. Partner closely with alumni association colleagues to strategize on the engagement of alumni, both universally and sport-specific. Develop best practices for sport-specific areas of alumni team reunion engagement, data collection, and engagement tracking. Provide support and guidance for the OSUAA Athletic Council Representative. Required to work occasional evenings and weekends with an ability to use a flexible schedule.
5% Completes special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Four (4) years of relevant experience in alumni relations, constituent engagement, and/or athletic relations within a higher education setting or similar experience in sales, communication, marketing in a business setting.

Master's degree in related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Five (5) years of relevant experience.
Experience in athletic programs within a higher education setting.
Experience in alumni or constituent relations within higher education.
Experience in program planning and administration.

In accordance with the Disaster Preparedness and University State of Emergency Policy 6.17 this position has been designated as a standby position.
Range for this role is 62,700 - 70,000. Offer dependent on combination of education and experience.
