Overview:
The
Executive Assistant Athletic Director of Student-Athlete Health, Wellness, and Sports Performance
is a leadership position within the Tennessee State Athletics department, responsible for overseeing and coordinating comprehensive health and wellness programs to support the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of student-athletes. This position will oversee areas such as sports medicine, strength and conditioning, nutrition, behavioral and mental health, and performance enhancement.
Responsibilities:
Sports Medicine
Provide strategic oversight and direction to the sports medicine staff, inclusive of athletic trainers, physicians, and physical therapists.
Ensure the delivery of high-quality medical care, injury prevention programs, and rehabilitation services to student-athletes.
Collaborate with coaches, staff, and medical professionals to develop and implement policies, protocols, procedures, and scheduling related to sports medicine
Strength and Conditioning
Lead and manage the strength and conditioning program for student-athletes, including the development of individualized training plans and performance assessments.
Implement evidence-based training methods and techniques to enhance athletic performance, injury prevention, and recovery.
Monitor and evaluate student-athlete progress and adjust training programs as needed
Nutrition
Develop and oversee nutrition programs and services to optimize student-athlete health, energy levels, and performance.
Provide guidance on nutrition education, meal planning, supplementation, and hydration strategies.
Collaborate with sports medicine and strength and conditioning staff to integrate nutrition into overall wellness initiatives.
Behavioral and Mental Health
:
Develop and implement behavioral and mental health programs and resources for student-athletes, coaches, and staff.
Coordinate mental health screenings, counseling services, and crisis intervention strategies.
Promote mental wellness, resilience, and coping skills among student-athletes through education and outreach.
Performance Enhancement
Collaborate with sports psychologists, performance coaches, and other professionals to enhance student-athlete performance.
Coordinate mental skills training, visualization techniques, and goal-setting strategies to optimize athletic performance.
Monitor and assess performance metrics and outcomes to inform program improvements and adjustments.
Master’s degree in sports medicine, athletic training, exercise science, nutrition, psychology, or a related field (Ph.D. or equivalent experience preferred).
Certified Athletic Trainer (
ATC
), Strength and Conditioning Specialist (
CSCS
), or equivalent professional certification required.
Minimum of (4) years of experience in collegiate athletics administration, sports medicine, strength and conditioning, or related field, with a focus on student-athlete health and performance.
Strong knowledge of sports medicine principles, injury prevention strategies, rehabilitation protocols, strength and conditioning techniques, nutrition guidelines, and mental health best practices.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively with coaches, medical professionals, student-athletes, and other stakeholders to achieve program goals and objectives.
Commitment to promoting a culture of wellness, optimal sports performance, and excellence among student-athletes.
Employment is contingent upon successfully completing a criminal background check as mandated by Tennessee State University.
