About the Job
Job Description

The University of Alaska Fairbanks is seeking a dynamic and experienced Head Athletic Trainer to lead the athletic training operations for all varsity athletic programs. This key role is responsible for overseeing comprehensive patient care for student-athletes, as well as fulfilling the administrative responsibilities designated to the Healthcare Administrator in accordance with NCAA regulations.

As a supervisory position, the Head Athletic Trainer will manage and mentor a team of athletic trainers and interns. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership and collaborative skills, working closely with fellow athletic trainers, strength and conditioning staff, athletics administrators, and sport coaches to support the health, safety, and performance of our student-athletes and advance the overall mission of the athletics department.

Success in this role requires a balance of leadership and collaboration. The ideal candidate will be both a team leader and a dedicated team player, working closely with the sports medicine staff to prevent, assess, and treat injuries across UAF’s athletic programs. Flexibility is essential, as the position demands availability for mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and team travel. Strong time management and the ability to effectively oversee personnel are critical for thriving in this fast-paced, multifaceted environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in athletic training or related field and five years related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Professional licensure may be required that is commensurate with the appropriate level. NATABOC (National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification) certification required.

National Athletic Trainers Association Certification (this includes CPR)
Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (Not required but preferred)
