Head Athletic Trainer
The Head Athletic Trainer is a health care professional who is responsible for the prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation of injuries within the Department of Athletics’ Sports Medicine Program.
Provide medical coverage for all home competitions.
Onsite care and management of injuries and illnesses including: prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation.

Head Athletic Trainer
The Head Athletic Trainer is a health care professional who is responsible for the prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation of injuries within the Department of Athletics’ Sports Medicine Program.
Provide medical coverage for all home competitions.
Onsite care and management of injuries and illnesses including: prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation.
Assist in the purchasing of all equipment and supplies to support the function of the Athletic Training Room.
Prepare, administer, and evaluate a budget for the Athletic Training Department.
Assess risk of injury, perform ergonomic evaluation and coaching, self-care implementation and overall wellness promotion.
Electronic documentation of all patient encounters.
Coordinate and implement injury prevention programs and customized preventative strategies and programs to each patient.
Minimize risk of injury through awareness, education and prevention strategies.
Provide accommodation recommendations, related to sport, for student athletes with restrictions or limitations.
Communicate with physicians, and coaching staff regarding the injury status of athletes.
Develop educational programs in accordance with the
NAIA
on drug awareness and prevention for all student athletes. Develop drug prevention programs among student athletes.
Assist with monitoring the
TXWES
Athletic Department drug testing as assigned by the Athletic Director.
Carry out medical care for assigned student-athletes per the
TXWES
Athletic Training standard operating procedures.
Assist in developing and updating an annual strategic plan for Athletic Training Department within the
TXWES
Athletic Department.
Responsible for administrative and other duties as assigned by the Athletics Director.
Master’s degree required
Texas Athletic Training License required
Board of Certification (
BOC
) Certification
Class C Texas Driver’s License required
Current First Aid/
CPR
Instructor Certification (preferred)
Prior collegiate Athletic Training experience (preferred 5+ years).
Experience and skill in crisis management and substance abuse intervention (preferred).
Experience working with professional, collegiate or large high school athletic programs.
Strong background and skill in rehabilitation.
Knowledge of a large range of medical problems.
Assessment, evaluation skills and working with other healthcare professionals will be required.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and diagnostic reports and physician orders.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions per state licensure guidelines.
Ability to speak effectively to patients (athletes), coaches, parents and other healthcare professionals.
Ability be thorough and detailed with injury tracking and documentation.
Ability to manage and coordinate athletic training staff and students.
Ability to be discrete in handling confidential matters, while complying with privacy regulations, e.g.
FERPA
,
HIPPA
, etc.
Ability to work independently and efficiently to meet deadlines with minimum supervision.
Proficiency with an integrated administrative system and current computer software programs.
Ability to adhere to and support University & departmental policies and procedures.
Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Ability to maintain a professional appearance and healthcare atmosphere.
Ability to be available during the evening and weekends, during games, and practices as needed.
Ability to move about and between campuses freely, including all office spaces, athletic training facilities, practice and competition venues.
Ability to lift or move equipment of up to 50 pounds.
Ability to be frequently exposed to outside weather conditions.
