Position Overview
Central State University seeks a Head Athletic Trainer to lead the sports medicine program and provide comprehensive healthcare services for student-athletes across 13 NCAA Division II programs. This position oversees all aspects of injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and return-to-play procedures. The Head Athletic Trainer also supervises a part-time athletic trainer and collaborates closely with team physicians and the Director of Health & Wellness to align athletics and campus wellness initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Sports Medicine Leadership
• Direct daily operations of the athletic training room and sports medicine program.
• Supervise the part-time athletic trainer, student workers, and interns.
• Coordinate care with team physicians, physical therapists, and outside medical providers.
• Oversee athletic training inventory, equipment, and budget.
• Ensure compliance with NCAA, SIAC, NATA, BOC, and Ohio licensure standards.
Clinical Responsibilities
• Provide on-site injury evaluation, emergency care, and acute injury management.
• Develop and administer individualized treatment and rehabilitation programs.
• Conduct pre-participation screenings and maintain accurate medical documentation.
• Travel with assigned teams and attend home competitions and practices.
Injury Prevention & Wellness
• Implement injury prevention programs and recovery protocols.
• Educate student-athletes on nutrition, conditioning, and safe training practices.
• Partner with Health & Wellness on campuswide wellness initiatives.
Communication & Collaboration
• Communicate effectively regarding injury status and return-to-play expectations.
• Participate in department meetings, safety initiatives, and training sessions.
• Support drug education and sports performance programming.
• Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training or related field.
• BOC Certification.
• Eligible for Ohio AT licensure.
• CPR, First Aid, AED certified.
• 3–5 years of athletic training experience, preferably collegiate.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel.
• Master’s degree.
• Experience supervising athletic training staff.
• NCAA or Division II experience.
