MAJOR PURPOSE:
The Head Athletic Trainer will serve the Jessup University student-athletes, and
athletic department. The Head Athletic Trainer will oversee the day to day operations of JU’s athletic
training facility and the prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. This is
a full-time 12 month, exempt staff position in the Athletic Department of Jessup University.
This position requires time spent on campus and select venues off campus for Jessup events.
The pay range for this position is generally: $75,000-$82,000. Individual pay is generally determined by a
number of factors including job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training and location.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
● Support and contribute to the development of the student athlete’s spiritual growth and athletic
well-being in conjunction with the mission of the athletic department.
● Oversee and manage all aspects of the Jessup Athletic Training department ensuring compliance
with California State Law, NCAA, NATA, PacWest Conference, and University guidelines, policies
and procedures.
● Supervise assistant athletic training staff, and interns when applicable.
● Ensure all Jessup athletic events are adequately staffed with Athletic Training resources. This
includes camps, clinics, home games, and away events as needed.
● Manage relationships with medical providers in the local area and coordinate annual
student-athlete physical examinations as well as medical referrals when needed.
● Coordinate and collect all health and medical insurance records and documentation for all
current student athletes, as well as assist student-athletes with athletic insurance documents
and questions, and maintain HIPAA/FERPA standards for student-athlete privacy/protection.
● Develop and oversee management of athletic training inventory and equipment as well as
manage department budgeting.
● Coordinate with the Performance Coach and Assistant Athletic Trainers to oversee the design
and administration of rehabilitation and injury prevention education programs for student
athletes and Coaches.
● Coordinate with Jessup Director of Student Care regarding mental health resources including
counseling and education to student-athletes.
● Attend staff development meetings as directed.
● Responsible to complete other duties as assigned by the athletic director
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:
● Minimum baccalaureate degree in Kinesiology, Athletic Training, or Exercise Science related field
from a CAATE accredited program; Master’s degree preferred.
● Current NATA-BOC certification.
● Current certification from any American Red Cross, AHA, or other NATA approved First
Aid/CPR/AED course.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
● Ability to use computers for recording student information and conducting research.
● Ability to evaluate, advise and counsel students on sport-related matters (sports nutrition, care,
rehabilitation).
● Ability to interpret and apply university-related policies, procedures, rules and regulations
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
● A strong and visible Christian faith
● Experience in the college/university setting preferred.
● Good organizational skills and the ability to work unsupervised
● Knowledge and ability to operate and maintain Athletic Training equipment
● Maintain confidentiality of information, data and records
● Strong customer service skills
● Supervisory skills: supervise and keep others accountable to duties
● Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Much of the employee’s working time will be spent outdoors on sports fields in all types of weather and
might require standing for long periods, working with medical equipment or machinery, and being able
to walk, run, kneel, crouch, stoop, or crawl. Some travel may be required.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear and frequently
required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to handle files, computers, and phones; reach with hands and
arms; stoop, and kneel. Frequent and regular repetitive movements required using the wrists, hands,
and/or fingers. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds. Specific vision abilities
include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to
adjust focus.
