About the Job
Job Description

Young Harris College seeks a dynamic and experienced Head Athletic Trainer / Sports Medicine Director to oversee and advance its NCAA Division II athletic training program. This role entails comprehensive oversight of student-athlete health, including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, education, and counseling. The position leads scheduling and coordination of athletic training coverage for all team practices and competitions—both home and away—while ensuring compliance with NCAA and Conference Carolinas regulations. The successful candidate will also manage communication with team physicians, coordinate physicals and referrals, and maintain meticulous medical and insurance records in accordance with federal and state guidelines.

This position is responsible for developing emergency action and drug-testing protocols, managing the athletic training facility, budget, supplies, and equipment, and ensuring the entire staff remains certified in First-Aid, CPR, and AED. Additionally, fostering a collaborative environment, the candidate will directly hire, train, supervise, and evaluate the athletic training team—including assistants, graduate assistants, interns, and work-study students—and resolve any performance or workplace concerns in adherence to institutional policies.

Qualified candidates will hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) with a minimum of three years of relevant experience—or an equivalent combination of education and experience—along with National Athletic Trainers Association certification and Georgia state licensure. Required competencies include BLS First-Aid/CPR/AED certification, strong verbal and written communication skills (notably SOAP notes and rehabilitation plans), proficiency in injury-tracking and concussion-testing software (e.g., SWAY), and the physical stamina to lift up to 100 pounds in varied environments.

Applicants should submit a cover letter detailing their interest and suitability, a current resume or CV, and contact information for three professional references, including unofficial transcripts. Apply electronically via the YHC Human Resources portal or by mail to Human Resources Director, Young Harris College, P.O. Box 68, Young Harris, GA 30582. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Finalists must pass a background check.

Applicants who would enrich the diversity of the campus community are strongly encouraged to apply. EOE M/F/D/V
