Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervise and direct all aspects of a NCAA Division I baseball program including the day to day management of the coaching staff, fiscally-responsible management of operating and scholarship budgets and organization and implementation of regional and national recruiting efforts; actively participate in Southland Conference baseball coaches meetings and collaboration and other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Responsible for providing a positive, safe and nurturing environment for baseball student-athletes while creating and promoting a culture of success in academics, athletics and in the community; support the physical, intellectual and emotional development of student-athletes; oversee the academic progress and development of student-athletes with an emphasis on graduation from the University of New Orleans; expect and promote comprehensive student-athlete participation in life skills and community outreach programming.
Oversee all aspects of preseason and regular season practice and game preparation through baseball skill development, competition preparations and strategy and strength and conditioning programming.
Engage in frequent communication with alumni of the Privateer Baseball program; participate in department-wide and program specific fundraising initiatives as directed by the Director of Athletics; assist with all aspects of the promotional and public relations activities of the baseball program and serve as a positive and reliable ambassador for the University of New Orleans and its Department of Intercollegiate Athletics; actively participate in student promotion and fan recruitment through participation in or attendance at on-campus and off-campus events; make appearances on post-game radiobroadcasts, in addition to regular radio shows, TV shows and at press conferences.
Represent UNO in a positive, dignified manner at any events on or off campus. Employee shall at all times abide by rules and regulations of the NCAA and Southland Conference and Division I with respect to the administration of the University’s athletic program. Employee shall at all times conduct themselves in an ethical manner in association with the standards set forth by NCAA Bylaws and University policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree;
Two (2) seasons as a Head Baseball coach at an NCAA, NAIA or NJCAA institution or three (3) seasons of NCAA Division I coaching experience;
Thorough knowledge of and commitment to compliance with rules, regulations and policies of the NCAA, Southland Conference and University of New Orleans;
Ability to establish a good rapport and effective working relationship with student-athletes, administration, faculty, staff, alumni and the general public;
Proven administrative, organizational and recruiting skills.
Desired Qualifications:
Masters’ Degree;
Knowledge of higher education and intercollegiate athletic department procedures;
Possesses a track record of graduating student-athletes;
Minimum five years’ collegiate coaching experience at the NCAA Division I level.
