The Head Cheer Coach is responsible for the comprehensive management and leadership of the university’s cheer team. • Program Management and Administration:
  • Oversee and manage all aspects of the cheer program, including budget, team travel, logistics, and staff coordination.
  • Develop and implement strategies for effective communication and collaboration with students, faculty, alumni, and the community.
  • Ensure compliance with the SIUE Principles Governing Athletics, university, conference, and NCAA Division I rules and regulations.
• Coaching and Team Development:
• Lead and conduct team practices, focusing on the development of individual skills and team routines that enhance fan engagement at home games.
• Monitor and design practice techniques to improve students' fundamental cheerleading skills based on their physical and mental needs.
• Provide individualized coaching to support each team member’s growth and performance.
• Recruiting and Team Building:
• Develop and execute a recruitment strategy to attract and retain talented cheerleaders.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with prospective student-athletes and their families.
• Fundraising and Public Relations:
• Take an active leadership role in fundraising activities and public relations efforts for the cheer program and the athletics department.
• Develop and implement fundraising strategies, including cultivating relationships with potential donors and organizing fundraising events.
• Oversee the cheer team’s community service initiatives and schedule campus and community appearances.
• Student-Athlete Welfare:
• Support the student-athlete concept and demonstrate a strong commitment to the health, safety, and welfare of each team member.
• Work in collaboration with the university’s faculty and administrative staff to ensure that students' academic requirements are met.
• Conduct regular meetings with individual cheerleaders to discuss their progress and address any concerns.
• Collaboration and Communication:
• Foster a cooperative and responsible working relationship with other departmental personnel.
• Maintain effective and positive communication with all stakeholders involved with the cheer program.
• Additional Duties:
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Marketing.

Work Schedule: Varies, part-time mostly weekends and evenings.

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s Degree, or a minimum of 5 years of coaching experience at the NCAA Division I level
2. Evidence of strong organizational and communication skills.
3. Previous coaching experience.
4. Evidence of a commitment to academic excellence.
5. The ability to interact effectively with students, colleagues, and the public.
6. Capable and willing to actively plan and participate in fund-raising, promotions, and other similar endeavors as they relate to the cheer team and the entire Athletics Department.

Additional Information: This position does not offer work authorization sponsorship. International students at SIUE on F-1 or J-1 visas are not eligible for full-time or part-time civil service positions with permanent status. F-1 and J-1 visa holders must be enrolled full-time and can only apply for temporary part-time roles working 20 hours or less per week during spring and fall semesters, such as student worker positions, assistantships, and civil service extra help roles.
