This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. A valid driver’s license issued by the State where the applicant resides and insurability as defined in UTS 157 may be required to perform the position's essential functions.
Facilitate in all phases of the UTEP Dance Team program including, but not limited to, demonstrating techniques, recruiting, organizing practices and games, scheduling, and compliance with university policies and procedures. Analyzes performance and instructs student athletes in strategies and techniques to prepare them for gameday performances and at all campus events, sporting events and community outreach. Equipped students with academic knowledge and career readiness skills they need for future success.
Essential Functions
Organize, implement and conduct practices, training, and workout procedures for the development and improvement of individual and team skills.
Facilitate game day activities including, but not limited to, pep rallies, spirit activities, events and parades.
Development of a code of discipline and behavior.
Create, organize, facilitate and execute fundraising activities
Preparation and instruction for national competition routines.
Supervise University Dance Team while representing UTEP at athletic events and other campus and community related activities.
Monitors and encourages student-athletes’ academic progress and success to ensure continuing eligibility to participate in all community events, athletic events and or NDA competitions.
Administrative duties including recruitment, managing budget, social media platforms and inventory and reconcile equipment (i.e. uniforms, props, etc.)
Assist Cheer program at fundraising events (summer camp and competition)
Assist Cheer program in the absence of head coach and/or assistant coach, if deemed necessary.
Participation and attendance of various training courses, presentations, committees, etc. in support of the Department of Student Affairs.
Ensure program adherence to USA Cheer/USA Dance and risk management standards and practices
Plan, promote and execute large scale community events for 1000 participants annually designed to promote the program and engage in the community.
Works cooperatively with personnel in athletics department, attends department meetings and activities, always represents the university positively when interacting with the community, alumni, other higher education institutions, high school, studios, coaches, media and general public
Attend and actively participate in marching band rehearsals on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 7:30 AM to 9:20 AM.
Perform at all home football games and participate in most marching exhibitions, community parades, and other scheduled appearances in collaboration with the Marching Miners.
Work closely with marching band directors, section leaders, and fellow members to maintain a high level of musical and visual performance quality.
Additional Duties May Include
Attends seminars, conferences and other professional development opportunities.
Participates, as appointed, on Intercollegiate Athletics, University, state, regional and national committees.
Collaborates with other entities on campus
Complies with all State and University policies.
Other duties may be assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities : Responsible for supervising dance team members at all times.

Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree
and
Experience: Three to five years of experience in dance instruction. Experience organizing and facilitating dance clinics and/or competitions/showcases. Experience in budget management.
A flexible schedule (including weekends and/or nights) is required.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s Degree
Certification in CPR/first preferred.
