Purpose of Position
To develop, promote, and supervise all facets of the University’s Spirit Squad program [specifically hockey cheer] while abiding by the rules and regulations of the NCAA, University of North Dakota and our conferences. Must have a commitment to compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations. Must provide support and encouragement and ensure the safety and well-being of the spirit squad members.

Duties & Responsibilities
Coaching/Team Management Develop, promote, and supervise all facets of the University’s hockey cheer program.
Social media supervision of hockey cheerleaders and hockey cheer staff
Develop a competitive program within the conference
Coaching team practices and games, practice/game management, gameday preparations
Ability to motivate hockey cheerleaders and develop talent
Academic and disciplinary supervision of hockey cheerleaders and promotion of all policies
Possess excellent oral and written communication skills and strong organizational skills
Achieve academic success and acceptable graduation rates for team (team GPA, APR, FGR are all factors)
Follow all NCAA, conference and UND rules and regulation
Provide support and encouragement and ensure the safety and well-being of the hockey cheerleaders
Other duties assigned by Director of Athletics and Spirit Squad Advisor.
Recruiting
Recruit quality prospective student-athletes (includes character, academic & athletics variables) for the program (when applicable)
Conduct recruiting process with integrity, ethics, and knowledge
Submit paperwork related to recruiting in a timely manner as directed
Adherence to all NCAA, conference and UND rules and regulations
General Program Administration/ Professionalism
Exhibit an achievement orientated attitude (high energy and high level of motivation)
Budget development and fiscal management
Effective management of admissions, compliance, and eligibility issues
Effective professional working relationship with hockey cheerleaders, staff, administration, alumni, general public, NCAA and conference officials
Hire quality volunteer assistant coaches, as applicable
Supervision of staff (Assistant/volunteer coaches, direct reports, administrative assistants, when applicable)
Effective work ethic concentrating on efficiency in tasks assigned and timely completion of requested materials/forms
Attendance at all required meetings (including but not limited to: compliance, life skill, and administrative meetings)
Demonstrated support of other department coaches/staff and personal behavior as a member of department/UND staff
Thorough knowledge of and commitment to compliance and follow all NCAA, conference and UND rules and regulations
Media Relations/Community Service/Public Relations/Fundraising/Marketing/Camps and Clinics
Team participation in community service activities
Maintain contact with spirit squad alumni and boosters
Serve as a spokesperson for the University’s hockey cheer program as directed
Develop community support for the program and participate in Athletics department and fundraising activities
Professionalism in program presentation
Marketing efforts - Address marketing and branding issues, as requested, assist with the marketing of the sport program (use of social media), as appropriate
Management and responsibility of all aspects of camps/clinics/special events, as applicable
Thorough knowledge of and commitment to compliance and follow all NCAA, conference and UND rules and regulations
Required Competencies
Ability to encompass the strategic mission of the University of North Dakota and Intercollegiate Athletics with tact and diplomacy at all times
Strong interpersonal, creative, motivational and communication skills
Excellent organizational, project management and problem-solving skills
Fluency of social media platforms outside of personal use
Ability to communicate and adhere to University, Summit League, Missouri Valley Football, NCHC, and NCAA policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
Ability to work nights and weekends
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's Degree
Previous hockey cheer team coaching experience and/or figure skating experience.
Knowledge of UND hockey cheerleaders' minimum requirements: Novice Moves in the Field (now called Silver Skating Skills) and Pre-Juvenile Free skate (now called Pre-Bronze Singles)
Hold a United States Figure Skating Association number
Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
