The Men's Soccer Head Coach is responsible for providing Christian leadership principles to a winning soccer program within the framework of the mission of the university and the intercollegiate athletic department. In addition, the head coach is to establish an environment in which student-athletes develop as well as mature spiritually, academically, socially and athletically with the purpose of each performer and team reaching their potential

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

Responsibility A: To lead and develop the soccer program within the framework of the mission of the university and the intercollegiate athletic department.

1. Read and follow all provisions as outlined by the Policies and Procedures Manual of the University and the Intercollegiate Athletic Department
2. Respond to all administrative correspondence in the requested time frame and attend all staff meetings
3. Submit a projected yearly budget and stay within budgeted allotments as set by the Athletic Director and Institution
4. Know the rules and regulations of the NCAA and PacWest to ensure compliance with departmental, University, conference, and national policies
5. Implement game rules and PacWest/NCAA regulations on a consistent basis
6. Within the framework of NCAA policies, recruit prospective student-athletes who are of the level necessary to be successful academically and athletically
7. Ensure assistant coaches and student-athletes are positive Christian representatives of the University at all times
8. Assign assistant coaches specific duties, supervise the assignments, and complete proper evaluations at the end of the season
9. Promote unity within the Athletic Department by working in corporation together and by supporting all University personnel

Responsibility B: To establish an environment in which student-athletes develop as well as grow spiritually, academically, socially and athletically.

1. Maintain the development and welfare of the student-athlete as the number one priority of the program
2. Ensure academic success, focusing on classroom achievement and graduation requirements
3. Provide leadership that promotes positive Christian attitudes and good sportsmanship with all student- athletes
4. Work with student-athletes in a fair, understanding, tolerant, sympathetic, and patient manner
5. To student-athletes, provide instruction and spiritual guidance that will lead to positive values, acceptable behavior, and self-discipline consistent with the philosophy of athletics; motivate the team for maximum performance by utilizing motivational philosophies that meet the needs of students and that are consistent with Athletic Program philosophy

Responsibility C: To develop, establish, and maintain a winning soccer program within the framework of the mission of the University and the Intercollegiate Athletic Department.

1. Display good sportsmanship in relationships with students, staff, officials, and opponents as consistent with NCAA policies regarding the principle of sportsmanship and ethical conduct
2. Maintain up-to-date information of sport regulations, rule changes, and NCAA policies
3. Submit yearly budget to the Athletic Director and keep current on all team expenditures to ensure compliance with team budget
4. Maintain and submit all required conference and NCAA lists, forms, and records on time as instructed by the Compliance Office
5. Develop in each student-athlete a respect for University property and its care
6. Work with the Athletic Director in setting goals and objectives for the Athletic Department; act in a wise and prudent manner when the Athletic Director is not available
7. Assist in the recruitment and selection of staff personnel and in the development of roles and responsibilities
8. Effectively manage time in a demanding work environment
9. Adhere to all institutional, PacWest, and NCAA bylaws and regulations
10. Ensure the physical, emotional, and social welfare of student-athletes
11. Establish and ensure a safe environment for student-athletes
12. Understand and agree to abide by the mission of the Athletic Department

Responsibility D: Perform all other duties and/or responsibilities as needed and/or as assigned by the Athletic Director and/or University administration.

1. Supervise home events as assigned by the Athletic Director
2. Fundraise

Specific responsibilities include:

1. Submit declaration of playing and practice season and schedule request form
2. Conduct team orientation before each academic year
3. Educate prospective student-athletes and enrolled student-athletes about NCAA Division II, PacWest, and institutional rules
4. Maintain pre-approved roster goal
5. Submit and log off-campus recruiting contacts and evaluations
6. Secure the release of potential transfer students and receive proper permission to contact
7. Review, audit, and submit weekly practice/competition logs in ARMS
8. Self-report NCAA Division II rules violations to the Compliance Office
9. Review summer regulations regarding Athletics participation, camps, and employment for coaches and student-athletes
10. Submit National Letter of Intent forms for prospective student-athletes
11. Coordinate the release of Institutional Letter of Intent signees with the Compliance Office
12. Communicate with Financial Aid, Admissions, and the Registrar's Office
13. Manage annual renewal, increase, reduction, cancellation, or non-renewal of athletic grants-in-aid with the Financial Aid Office and Compliance Office
14. Monitor compliance with NCAA Division II and PacWest bylaws

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directly supervise assistant coaches, graduate assistants and student managers. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the University's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from a four-year college or university; two-five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Knowledge of coaching methods
• Ability to travel and work weekends
• Knowledge and have the responsibility for adherence of all assistant coaches to all PacWest and NCAA bylaws
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body
• Ability to effectively arrange home and away contests according to PacWest and NCAA requirements and submit travel paperwork and NCAA pass lists on time
• High degree of interpersonal skills to represent the University, train and administer in a warm and effective manner
• Able to anticipate ebb and flow of office work and delegate work accordingly
• Capable of supervising the work of others
• Willingness to attend coaching seminars and to improve coaching related tasks
• Capable of working without supervision
• Ability to inspire others to work together to get the work done
• Ability to supervise assistant coaches or other employees
• Awareness that behavior and dress should be appropriate for the environment of a Christian university
• Ability to explain national eligibility guidelines to coaches, students, parents and prospective families
