Description
Summary/Objective
All positions in the Department of Athletics are responsible to help student-athletes fulfill the stated missions of Southwest Baptist University and the Department of Athletics.
Essential Job Duties
Design and implement training protocols for the athletic department teams and athletes
Assist the athletic training staff in rehabilitation and injury prevention as needed
Supervision of workout session for each program
Instruction of proper techniques for strength and conditioning
Make recommendations for the purchase of new equipment
Responsible for arranging of maintenance and repairs of the weight room equipment
Assists the head coach to make travel arrangements for program
Complies with all rules and regulations of the NCAA, GLVC, and SBU
Assists in activities hosted by SBU to facilitate recruitment
Works in cooperation with department members to strengthen all sports programs
Regular attendance and punctuality
Sets an example of a Christian lifestyle for students, staff and faculty
Commitment and adherence to Southwest Baptist University’s Principles and Expectations
Performs duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics
Supervisory Responsibility
The Head Coach of Strength and Conditioning supervises GAs and student-workers assigned to the program.
Position Requirements
Required
Bachelor’s Degree
Certification through the NSCA (CSCS) or CSCCa (SCCC)
Knowledge of NCAA rules
Preferred
Master’s Degree in Sports Performance, Strength and Conditioning, Exercise Science, Athletic Administration, or related field
At least one year of full or part-time strength and conditioning coach experience at the collegiate level is preferred
Have the ability to work well with students, faculty, community, and media
Ability to teach, demonstrate, and supervise proper techniques for strength, speed, conditioning, agility, and flexibility exercises within the program, while maintaining a safe environment
Work Environment
Must be able to work in typical office and athletics environment.
Must be available for frequent travel during season and recruiting times. Night and weekend work required.
Must be able to work during crowd noise and loud game environments
Must be able to work outdoors
Must be able to travel long distances by plane, train, or automobile.
Must be able to interact and instruct team members in drills, play formation, and game preparation.
Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently.
Physical Abilities
Must be able to operate and / or maneuver equipment used for the daily training of student-athletes in strength and conditioning.
Must be able to operate standard office equipment such as a personal computer, photocopies, printer, etc.
Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and hold a valid Missouri Driver’s License.
Must be able to climb stairs, work in varying temperatures and sit and stand for long periods of time.
