Brown University Athletics and Recreation is seeking candidates for the Head Coach, Women’s Water Polo. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, and a member of the Ivy League, our intercollegiate athletics program consists of 34 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes who participate within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA-DI).

This position is responsible for the organization, development, and leadership of a varsity intercollegiate athletic program in support of the mission and core values of the Athletic Department/University. Duties may include hiring staff; recruiting and retaining top prospective student-athletes; establishing a competitive schedule; coordinating practice planning, skill development, and designing strategies which prepare team for competition; mentoring student-athletes; overseeing booster clubs and development initiatives; organizing sport camps; and budget management; collaborates with numerous athletic and University units; demonstrates adherence to University, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.

The Head Coach is critically involved in all aspects of the program, and  is given specific autonomy in key areas of the program such as recruiting, coordination of meets coaching tactics/strategies, budget management, staff oversight, etc.; the Head Coach has significant responsibility in the following areas, but not limited to: mentoring assistant coach(es); scheduling and team travel; promotion of the team and University; fundraising and alumni events; practice planning; equipment purchase/inventory; and professional development; establishment/enforcement of team rules, community service efforts, etc.; represents the Women’s Water Polo Program at meetings, fund-raising functions, and alumni events; adheres to University, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations while supporting the core values of intercollegiate athletics. 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • One to three years coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level

  • Collegiate playing experience preferred Division I Women’s Water Polo collegiate coaching experience preferred collegiate playing experience.
