Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Athletics and Chief Operating Officer, the Head Field Hockey Coach is responsible for management and administration of all phases of the intercollegiate sports program. The Head Field Hockey Coach is responsible for the skill instruction and player development of all student-athletes, the recruitment and retention of quality student-athletes and the overall success of the sport program. The Head Coach is recognized as pivotal to, and responsible for, the record of the program as it relates to competitive scheduling, university/community relations and the enhancement of the student-athlete.
Responsible for knowledge of
NCAA
rules and regulations. If found responsible for a violation of
NCAA
regulations, will be subject to disciplinary or corrective action, including termination if appropriate. Also, may be responsible for any act or omission that may give rise to a finding that the University has violated an
NCAA
regulation.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Directs all phases of the management, administration, instruction, and competition of field hockey.
Directly responsible for the retention and graduation of the student-athletes within field hockey and coordinates with the academic advisement office.
Responsible for all areas of field hockey’s budget including, recruiting, travel, equipment, and fundraising.
Schedules and conducts regular practice sessions as allowed by the
NCAA
and University guidelines.
Oversees the conditioning and training of the student-athletes in conjunction with the sports medicine staff and the strength and conditioning staff and adheres to all policies and procedures within the University’s health and safety program as well as
NCAA
guidelines.
Responsible for identifying, evaluating, and recruiting potential student-athletes.
Initiates the process for recommending financial athletic aid, the National Letter of Intent, and the non-renewal/renewal scholarship recommendations. All documentation for non-renewal of disciplinary suspensions is the responsibility of the head coach.
Conducts the performance evaluation of the assistant coaches.
Serves as the primary recruiter and recommends all hiring of staff members to the Athletic Director.
Monitors and coordinates the professional conduct of all coaches and support staff.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree required.
Experience as a head coach preferred or at least three years’ experience as an assistant coach at the intercollegiate level.
Possess excellent interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated leadership abilities with a commitment to developing and maintaining a positive and productive playing environment for all team members.
Master’s degree preferred.
DI college field hockey experience.
DI college coaching experience.
