Eckerd College is currently hiring for the position of Head Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Coach to join our Athletics team at our waterfront property along the Boca Ciega Bay in St. Petersburg, Florida, in our relationship-focused community. The Eckerd College Tritons are members of NCAA Division II and the Sunshine State Conference with 14 teams competing in a variety of varsity sports.
The College is revitalizing both programs for the Fall 2025 season. This addition marks a new chapter for a program rich in history and tradition. The Tritons women's cross country team, which competed from 1984 to 2004, achieved remarkable success during its run, capturing three Sunshine State Conference (SSC) team championships in 1990, 1991, and 1992, as well as two individual titles. The program also made three NCAA Championship appearances, highlighted by the historic performance of Kim Fagen, Eckerd's first female All-American. Fagen won the NCAA South Region Title and placed 24th at the NCAA Championship in 1991.

The men's program, with roots tracing back to 1967, was active through 2001 and similarly boasts a strong legacy. The team secured SSC titles in 1989 and 1992, and an individual SSC championship in 1993.
As Head Cross Country Coach, you will direct all facets of the program through planning and implementing all training and conditioning of student-athletes, coaching and instruction, recruiting, promotions and public relations, assuring academic progress, budget preparation, administration and management, and scheduling.
The Head Coach demonstrates extensive knowledge of sport-specific fundamentals, techniques, and strategies, and possesses knowledge of NCAA compliance rules. The incumbent must have the ability to identify, recruit, and retain competitive student-athletes and cultivate positive relationships with athletes, alumni, parents, and donors. The position frequently requires prolonged periods of moving around campus facilities and frequently requires after-hours work and travel.
This is a full-time, 10-month, benefits eligible position.

Key Responsibilities
Manage daily operations of the cross country programs, including planning and conducting training sessions, coaching at meets, and fostering the development of student-athletes both athletically and personally.
Organize and coordinate all recruitment of potential student-athletes in cooperation with admissions and within NCAA guidelines.
Monitor the academic progress of each student-athlete and coordinate support services when needed.
Recruit, supervise, and mentor volunteer assistant coaches and student workers to support program operations.
Develop, implement, and maintain team policies and procedures in alignment with department and college values.
Schedule appropriate competitions in accordance with NCAA and SSC guidelines, while adhering to the program’s budget.
Manage the program budget and oversee purchasing of all equipment and uniforms.
Coordinate all logistics for travel including transportation, lodging, meals, and student-athlete supervision.
Plan and execute outreach efforts involving the campus community, alumni, and local organizations.
Assist the Director of Athletics in fundraising initiatives, alumni engagement, and the annual dinner auction.
Serve as game manager at a certain number of home events throughout the year.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree
At least five (5) years of coaching experience at the collegiate level, or a combination of coaching and high-level competitive experience
Valid driver license.
