Job Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Athletics, the Head Golf Coach is responsible for the leadership and management of a competitive NCAA DII golf program. Managed in accordance with NCAA, Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC), and Hillsdale College policies and regulations, the Head Coach is responsible for managing and cultivating a highly successful golf program which includes effective program management, competitive success, recruitment of high-level student-athletes, and development of the whole person aligning with the mission of Hillsdale College.

Job Summary

Managed in accordance with NCAA, Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC), and Hillsdale College policies and regulations, the Head Coach is responsible for managing and cultivating a highly successful golf program which includes effective program management, competitive success, recruitment of high-level student-athletes, and development of the whole person aligning with the mission of Hillsdale College.

Essential Job Functions

1. Plan and execute scheduling for traditional and non-traditional seasons, team travel, lodging, and meals as applicable.
2. Successful recruitment of golf student-athletes to meet the College’s mission and admission standards and expectations
3. Preparation and management of program operating budget
4. Management of scholarship budget and communication with the financial aid office when awarding and renewing athletic scholarship offers
5. Foster a positive and competitive environment.
6. Provide support to academics and monitor the academic progress of student-athletes.
7. Plan and coordinate golf strategy, practices, and skill development of student-athletes
8. Emphasis on NCAA compliance and continual education of legislation
9. Management of the Salmans Golf Facility, driving range, and short game area
10. Plan and execute marketing and fundraising activities as applicable
11. Contribution to and collaboration with the athletics department staff and programs
12. Direct golf camps and instruction as applicable
13. Teach in the Sports Studies department as assigned by the Chair of the Sports Studies department

Required Qualifications

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree required. Previous experience coaching golf and/or working as a golf pro and competing as an athlete is required. PGA certification, and\or College coaching experience preferred.

1. Knowledge of NCAA rules & regulations.
2. Knowledge of technique and golf strategy.
3. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to express effectively ideas orally and in writing.

Physical Demands

Physical Requirements

1. Average physical strength is required.
2. Must be able to ambulate, step, climb, stoop, bend, twist, and carry heavy objects over uneven terrain.
3. Must be able to demonstrate movements in which athletes are being trained.
4. Must be able to read, write, and communicate with Hillsdale College colleagues, athletes, prospective athletes, donors, and other constituents orally and in writing.
5. Must be able to safely lift or move up to 50 pounds of golf equipment regularly.
6. Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions.
