Head Men’s Soccer Coach

Job Purpose

The head coach will be responsible for managing all aspects of a competitive and successful NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer program with the primary responsibility being the planning and instruction of soccer skills.  The successful candidate must have a strong commitment to the academic success of the student-athletes in the program that leads to graduation through a positive collegiate experience.

• Compliance with NCAA, SAC and Catawba College Policies and Regulations
• The head coach must be efficient at individualized and team instruction with emphasis on teaching all skills and strategies associated with soccer
• Recruiting quality student-athletes that are committed to the Catawba College mission within the allotted scholarship structure and limits

Duties and Responsibilities

• Compliance with NCAA, SAC and Catawba College Policies and Regulations
• The head coach must be efficient at individualized and team instruction with emphasis on teaching all skills and strategies associated with soccer
• Recruiting quality student-athletes that are committed to the Catawba College mission within the allotted scholarship structure and limits
• Commitment to and the management of program budget
• Coordinate and maintain regular communication with Catawba athletics staff, including the Director of Athletics, Compliance, Sports Medicine, Media Relations, Video, Sport Performance, and Facilities Operations
• Provide academic support and oversight for all student-athletes
• Game scheduling
• Hiring, managing and evaluating coaching staff
• Practice and game planning and implementation
• Player development and evaluation
• Commitment to support Catawba Culture
• Support an effective strength and conditioning program managed by Sport Performance staff
• Managing travel (booking hotels, vans, buses, etc.)
• Developing and maintaining positive alumni relations
• Day to day program administration
• Preparing scouting reports, scouting/film analysis
• Actively assist with program fundraising and development of alumni and community relations
• Serve on campus and departmental committees as requested
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred
• Successful collegiate coaching experience is preferred
• Demonstrated expertise in on field instruction and knowledge of the game
• Ability to recruit student-athletes that will be successful in the classroom, on the field and in the community
• Ability to lead, mentor and motivate student-athletes
• Strong communication, organizational, problem solving and interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to produce and manage a competitive Soccer program are important
• Developing and maintaining positive alumni relations
• Current CPR and First Aid certification required
• Valid North Carolina driver’s license required  

About Catawba College:

Founded in 1851 in Newton, North Carolina, Catawba College was established by German pioneers. In 1890, Catawba became a coeducational institution. In 1925, the College moved to its current location in Salisbury, North Carolina, strategically located just 45 minutes from Charlotte, Greensboro, and Winston-Salem and within two hours of the mountains and fours from the coast.

Catawba’s 276-acre wooded campus houses 41 buildings, including an 189-acre ecological preserve. The College is home to 24 NCAA Division II athletic teams and features more than 40 student-led clubs and organizations. Catawba received three transformational gifts in three years to its endowment, the most recent being a $200 million gift. This follows another $200 million gift in 2021 and a $42 million gift in 2022, pushing Catawba’s endowment to more than $580 million. The per-student endowment approaches $500,000, which is among the highest in the Southeast. The College is undergoing a time of significant development on campus, with multiple projects underway that align with their commitment to sustainability, community, and student experience. The Smokestack, a reclamation of the College’s old coal power plant, will be renovated according to Living Building Challenge stands and will provide an additional 10,000 square feet of student space. A new 150-bed residence hall is scheduled for completion in August 2026, and two additional residence halls are being renovated.
