Position Summary Information

| Summary |
Serve as Head Coach for the Softball team at California Baptist University by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate workers. | | Essential Duties and Responsibilities |
Other duties may be assigned.

1. Understand and agree to abide by the mission of CBU and the CBU Athletics Department.
2. Instruct athletes with sound principles and expertise in skills development, training, and strategies to achieve success.
3. Responsible for knowledge of game rules and Conference/NCAA regulations and implements these rules on a consistent basis.
4. Adhere to all institutional, conference and NCAA by-laws and regulations.
5. Oversee and plan competitive intercollegiate practices and competitions that focus on the development of the student-athletes and success of the program.
6. Responsible for the academic progress and success of student-athletes.
7. Provide instruction and spiritual guidance to students that will lead to positive values, acceptable behavior, and self-discipline consistent with the philosophy of athletics at CBU.
8. Motivate team for maximum performance by utilizing motivational philosophies that meet the needs of the students and that are consistent with the CBU Athletic Program philosophy.
9. Assigns assistant coaches’ specific duties, supervises the assignments, and completes proper evaluation at the end of season.
10. Within the framework of CBU and NCAA policies, recruits and evaluates prospective student-athletes who are of the level necessary to be successful academically and athletically.
11. Display good sportsmanship in relationship with students, staff, officials and opponents as consistent with NCAA policies regarding the principle of sportsmanship and ethical conduct.
12. Maintain up-to-date information about sport regulations, rule changes, and Conference/NCAA policies.
13. Responsible for submission of yearly budget to Athletic Director and keep current on all team expenditures to ensure compliance with team budget.
14. Maintain and submit all required conference and NCAA lists, forms and records on time as instructed by Compliance Office.
15. Develops in each athlete a respect for university property and its care.
16. Works with the sport supervisor in setting goals and objectives for the Athletic Department. Acts in a wise and prudent manner within all aspects of the program.
17. Assists in the recruitment and selection of staff personnel and in the development of roles and responsibilities.
18. Effectively manage time in a demanding work environment.
19. Respond to all administrative correspondence in the requested timeframe and attend all staff meetings.
20. Ensure the physical, emotional, and social welfare of student-athletes. Establish and ensure a safe environment for student-athletes.

Directly supervises the programs assistant coaches and other program leaders. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.  | | Other Knowledge Skills and Abilities |

• Ability to travel, including domestic/international air travel, and work nights/weekends/holidays.
• Knowledge and have the responsibility for adherence of all assistant coaches to all Conference and NCAA rules and bylaws.
• Able to be a positive representative of the University at all times.
• Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student body.
• Ability to effectively arrange home and away contests according to conference and NCAA requirements and submit travel paperwork and NCAA pass lists on time.

Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers and speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate in person or over the phone. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places. Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; and one to two years related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Secondary level athletic experience preferred. Previous coaching experience at high school or NCAA level preferred. |
