The Head Strength and Conditioning Coordinator reports directly to the Head Athletic Trainer. Lead in assisting men and women student-athletes to reach performance goals through the development and management of individual and group weight, strength and fitness training programs. Work with the Athletic training staff and qualified sports medicine personnel on the reduction of sports-related injuries and proper prevention methods in multiple sports. Will abide by and complies with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference rules, academic standards, requirements, and policies of Shepherd University.
A Bachelor’s degree is required with an emphasis in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, or Physical Education. Must have progressive experience with the development and management of sport-specific individuals and group strength training programs for men and women. CSCS certification required.
A Master’s degree is preferred. Experience with development and management of strength training programs at the college/university level is preferred. Any experience in management of a health/fitness or weight training facility is preferred. Student-athlete experience, in any sport at the collegiate level, is preferred.

Job Duties

- Work with all 15 varsity sports that are sponsored.
Work with head coaches to design training programs that revolve around strength, conditioning and weight training geared toward specific sports.
Provide expert instruction in the use of weight machines and conditioning equipment and be able to tailor different programs based on the needs of the teams or individual athletes.
Develop programs that improve the speed, agility, quickness, flexibility and cardiovascular stamina of student-athletes.
Provide and encourage basic nutritional guidelines as they pertain to athletic development and contribution to athletic success.
Account for procedures and regulations over their athletic department’s governing body and use training programs not just to maximize athlete performance but also to minimize injury.
Observe training, practice, and performance and use their observations in conjunction with athlete records to assess strengths and weaknesses and design programs accordingly.
The Strength and Conditioning Coach must maintain detailed, accurate and updated athlete records in order to track athlete progress.
Communicate pertinent information with coaches and use athlete data in order to assess training programs for effectiveness.
Work with athletic training staff to develop rehabilitation programs for injured athletes.
Designs and perform baseline tests to assess the skills and weaknesses of each individual student-athlete.
Abide by all NCAA rules and regulations and notify administration of any issues pertaining to these rules.
Maintain the weight room through the inventory of equipment, recommendation of equipment, repair and maintenance of equipment and cleanliness of space.
Manage and schedule the use of the weight room in coordination with coaches.
