MAJOR PURPOSE
In partnership with the Sports Medicine department and Head Coaches, the Head Strength and
Conditioning Coach is responsible for the development and management of individual and group
performance training programs for student-athletes participating in the intercollegiate athletics program.
This position is 100% in person on campus. This position may include working evenings and weekends
and non-traditional work hours. Travel may be required.
The pay range for this position is generally: $50,000-$60,000. Individual pay is generally determined by a
number of factors including job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training and location.

MAJOR PURPOSE

Conditioning Coach is responsible for the development and management of individual and group
performance training programs for student-athletes participating in the intercollegiate athletics program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
● Designs, implements and supervises year round sport specific strength and conditioning
programs for Jessup Athletics sports teams. This includes developing, monitoring, and evaluating
speed, agility, and strength and conditioning regimes.
● Utilizes sport science backed strategies such as movement assessments, testing measures and
individual athlete analysis to collect data that assesses athletes current physical status and
performance improvements throughout the year.
● Teaches fundamental lifting techniques and drills.
● Creates and implements warm up, cooldown, and recovery programs tailored to specific sports
teams and their activities.
● Educates student-athletes in proper nutrition, sleep, and lifestyle practices.
● Works directly with Sports Medicine staff in the modification and rehabilitation of injured
athletes, abiding by proper medical direction to ensure sufficient recovery and return to full
participation.
● Uses knowledge of common sports injuries and utilizes proper injury prevention methods.
● Works directly with sport coaches to coordinate and plan team workouts.
● Effectively communicates with student athletes, coaches, and staff within the Athletics
Department and the University.
● Supervises, trains, schedules and directs assistant strength and condition coaches, weight room
interns, student assistants, and weight room attendants.
● Educates staff, athletes and university students of weight room rules, safety policies, and EAPs,
ensuring their enforcement in the facility.
● Maintains proper care, repair, and cleanliness of weight room equipment and facilities in a way
that ensures a safe environment.
● Maintains electronic records of athlete performance, attendance, workout schedulings and
mental and physical wellness
● Manages and implements a yearly budget for the weight room.
● Serves as a Field Experience/Internship Site Supervisor for Kinesiology Strength and Conditioning
students.
● Ensures that student interns are directly supervised during day-to-day activities.
● Provides instruction, assessment, and feedback for the application of current knowledge, skills,
and abilities in alignment with NSCA-CASCE accreditation curriculum standards.
● Adheres to University, NCAA, PacWest Conference and affiliate conference rules and regulations
while maintaining necessary and current certifications and qualifications.
● Contributes to the overall success of Jessup University by performing other duties as assigned.
● Promotes a positive image of the intercollegiate athletics program and the University by
participating in community and professional organizations.
● Contributes to the overall success of the University's intercollegiate athletics program by
performing all other duties and responsibilities
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certifications
● Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required
● Master’s degree preferred, with an emphasis in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, or Physical
Education
● Requires certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a
Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).
● Requires CPR/AED and First Aid certification
Required Knowledge/Experience
● Three to five years of experience developing and managing sport-specific strength training
programs for men and women, preferably at the college/university level, with additional
experience managing a health, fitness, or weight training facility preferred.
● Knowledge of common sports injuries, prevention strategies, and supporting athletes in safe
return‑to‑play protocols.
● Deep understanding of exercise science, strength training techniques, and sport‑specific
conditioning programs.
● Knowledge of basic nutrition education to support athletes’ health and performance.
Skills/Abilities
● Excellent communication skills, supervisory and management skills are required.
● Strong skills in teaching and demonstrating proper exercise techniques, correcting form, and
ensuring safe execution of workouts.
● The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures
or backgrounds is required.
● Ability to work effectively with coaches, athletic trainers, medical staff, and student‑athletes to
develop comprehensive training and rehabilitation plans.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT

WORKING CONDITIONS
The employee regularly works in both indoor and outdoor settings. Temperature, noise levels, and
lighting can vary. Surfaces include tile, concrete, rubber and carpeted floors, grass and sports turf. There
are no hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear and frequently
required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to handle files, computers, and phones; reach with hands and
arms; stoop, crouch and kneel. Frequent and regular repetitive movements required using the wrists,
hands, and/or fingers. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision
abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the
ability to adjust focus.
