Job Purpose

Reporting to the Athletic Director, the Head Coach recruits and coaches student-athletes, manages all administrative functions, and serves as the public face of Winthrop University’s

NCAA

Division I Men’s and Women’s Track and Field and Cross Country programs.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree.

At least two years of coaching track and field and/or cross-country at the collegiate level.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree.

Five years of coaching experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Summary

Expert knowledge of Track and Field coaching techniques and training strategies.

Working knowledge of

NCAA

, Big South and university rules and policies and the ability to apply them consistently.

Effective organizational and oral and written communication skills.

Sufficient technical skills to master required software.

Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, employees, students and their families, and the general public.

Demonstrated ability to hire, train supervise and evaluate employees.

Proven ability to successfully recruit and train student-athletes to compete at high levels.

Demonstrated commitment to high academic standards and the ability and willingness to develop student-athletes academically and athletically.

Ability to work with staff, student-athletes and coaches from diverse backgrounds.

Ability to work flexible hours.

Job Summary

Coaching & Player Development

Coordinates all strategic aspects of the cross-country and track and field programs.

Organizes, prepares and conducts individual and team practices, training and competitions.

Recruits student-athletes in accordance with

NCAA

rules and regulations.

Administration

Manages and supervises daily operations and all administrative facets of the program, including budget, scheduling, equipment, travel and reporting.

Supervises and mentors assistant and volunteer coaches.

Compliance & Academics

Monitors the academic progress and personal development of all student-athletes in the program.

Coordinates services/activities with the Student Success Team.

Ensures compliance with university, Big South and

NCAA

rules and regulations.

External Relations

Represents Winthrop University Athletics at various institutional programs and externally to media, government agencies, funding agencies, students, parents and the general public.

Participates in fundraising and public relations activities to promote the program and Winthrop Athletics.

Travel/Overtime Requirements

Evening and weekend work and overnight travel required
